I think the idea was because the maps are more balanced so you don't need to restart for desert etc, but the problem is some starts are still really bad

Like if you have no resources nearby you might as well restart. Or if you're egypt with no rivers and stuff

Sometimes you just don’t vibe with a start even if it’s good. Considering the length of a civ playthrough, it’s reasonable to want to restart.
