Haven’t played a ton of games so not entirely sure if it’s a feature, bug, or coincidence, but whenever I reduce the AI to a single civ, I always start on the same continent as them. In civ6?l, you could get through ocean navigation before ever meeting another civ. Now, my scouts are finding the AI a dozen hexes away in the very early game. Every time.
#Same land mass start?

It's because of the "distant lands" (or something like that) feature. If you are playing with full AI count, there is generally two continents or connected land masses, and in between them are loads of islands. Basically the idea is that you are kind of like European power that sets sail to unknown overseas and there you find only couple more civs that are already habiting that land. Then you choose how to proceed; fight/settle/.. But this happens in exploration age
I get that, but in the realm of possibilities, it’s not impossible that two different civilizations would start on two different continents and not meet for sole number of years. Civ7 forces both civilizations to be neighbors.
