I am a smidge sad that independent powers are really generic this go around. It feels kind of culturally disingenuous to have Nukuleka in fully Pacific Islander getup only to have them offer you emporiums and lapis lazuli, or for the Xiangbei to offer hillforts from Britannia. I really do enjoy the remix style 7 has going but this doesn't feel like a combination of unique cultures and mechanics, but rather a few selected archetypes for each city state type.

Is there any way to make them feel more distinct from one another? I know there's loads more peoples this go round but honestly I'd rather have fewer mechanically distinct options with each culture over an interchangeable cultural palette swap.

Indies in the Antiquities age are ok, there're a few ways to interact with them. I don't mind the rewards they give, while Civ 6's system of unique city-states was great it meant that having early access to certain ones could make or break your game and some of them elevated specific strategies to absurd levels. It's nice that it down't matter which commercial independent is near me because the rewards are the same.
