Did anyone watch the vid the executive director of Anthem put out about how it was being developed? I feel like the story is really interesting compared to games like Concord, SS:KTJL, Marathon, etc. that spend years in development and seem to surface really undercooked

Especially how much a good pitch that vaguely promises everything the publisher is looking for can turn into aimless dev work without a guiding vision

People have favorite characters and want to buy cosmetics for them, and then if they want to play other characters they're compelled to buy skins for them as well. It's how League of Legends, R6 Siege, Call of Duty, etc etc have made billions of dollars from skins

Yeah I guess I was thinking of like Fortnite which was really like one of the first massively successful shops and it did not starting doing “favorite character” stuff with like other IP until later in its lifespan and was massively successful before that

I think probably the best / chillest model is something like Hunt Showdown's, skins purely cosmetic, seasonal, etc. Move away from class system in favor of traits / "mods" for characters

Make guns less "beam-y" where hits matter, less tracking required, more about positioning then too

well Fortnite is also one of the first, so it's kinda like the "prime" /patient zero of stuff so it didn't need to build on the hero stuff, hero shooters weren't abundant at the time outside of siege, overwatch, paladins, TF2, but that was it, until eveyeoneee starts doing it

If I recall Fortnite was like a MASSIVE gamble for epic games it's a shock it even became big

The whole point the explained for the “class system” is you need to be able to tell what abilities you’re about to run into based on who you’re fighting. They could’ve done actual classes instead of runners with distinct personalities

This is totally irrellevant in Hunt though, you don't know if someone can "teleport into a zombie" but you know the rough chance you'll run into that based on the drop rate

They are saying marathon is supposed to be a casual extraction shooter (yes I know that doesn't "exist" but that's the point of bringing it to the market) and making things familiar with other games (heroes, br ish elements?) is good for the CASUAL market and the market that would buy into the game

Learn from those games that have survived. People consider Hunt to be "way more casual" than Tarkov, for instance

Yeah I don't fully disagree, I am a hardcore realism kind of guy so I wouldn't mind at all if they just made a cyberpunk alien version of Tarkov

But I appreciate Marathon for what it is and recognize the direction they're taking

True, I see marathon with it's beam weapons as being way less appealing. It's a fundamental problem imo. Whoever locks on first has a different kind of advantage compared to hunt, where someone CAN ambush /get the first hit,

but because of the slow reload of most weapons, there's still a chance to escape or cover

Based on public reactions, I think they've sat down and are putting a lot more work in. Maps looked very barebones, almost xbox 360 grade in appearance

Again, as a primarily Hunt player, the enviro is half the battle with cover, routes, places to run ,rotate, etc. Saw absolutely none of that in the marathon outdoor sections which made fights look a bit less complex
