Minecrafts Deserts are incredibly boring. I mean sure thats all a desert is, sand and... more sand?
I had previously suggested it months back into the mod how I would like some sort of 'infestation' for the player to deal with. But now I have shifted it more to a 'get out and go find it' idea. Main inspirations were; Lethal Company, Wild Western Films, and Bug Colonies.
Silt-lands
For a very first biome is reasonably simple. You take a desert, apply a dusty fog-like filter on it to simulate a constant sandstorm.
There are two portions. First, the above ground portion.
As if to fit the desert style. You can find various wild western themed spots like abandoned saloons, Sheriffs offices, or small mineshafts. These buildings are all cob-webbed and decrepit, but with older more forgotten variants of current charms and weapons.
Saloons can carry Bintycola, a much older but slightly better version of Dr. Binty in a glass bottle. (with the added drawback that nausea is induced at a certain speed)
You can also find various examples of the poor regulations of medicines in the time period you would find in a abandoned shack, however with much more potent results and nasty after effects
Sheriffs Offices can carry 2 new weapons. A Lever action sharps rifle that is upgraded to hold much more powerful rounds giving the once-underpowered frontier rifle a much needed kick. Sheriffs offices can also be home to a dual-weild oriented revolver with a unique ability to scale damage based on hits without miss, however to obtain this you would need to defeat Mini-boss named Hal Horse. The Revolver has a unique description reading "who you callin' pinhead?"
Finally the Mineshafts are intentionally small, as the people here recognized the danger quickly. Toxon. You can crush it, refine it, bottle it, but you should never inhale it. Can be used to create area of effect splash potions that are similar in effect to dragons breath. Aswell as possibly making a poisonous round.
