One of the best things you can do is look up guides on wowhead, icy-veins or even maxroll.gg/wow. See what they say about rotation, gear & stats, you can even copy their talent builds and save them in game to use depending on what you're currently doing. Then you go to a traning dummy and try the rotation with proper talents. There are single target dummy and aoe dummies so you can get the feel both doing aoe & single target dmg.
