Macro your pet abilities and forget about it

#

There’s no point in positioning your pet anywhere except volcoross, where you want to position it max range in the decision you will be moving

fallow dock
#

No

#

BM is the wrong class for that, we don’t have minmaxes

You could try to use the pet utility to help out your group, maybe.

#

Then again, though, I feel like Spirit Mend's heal would just get outshined by AoE healing?

fallow dock
#

You just bind spirit mend to your exhil

#

And turn off autocast

#

I meant, as in to heal someone else in your raid group, maybe, possibly, under very niche circumstances?

fallow dock
#

There’s better things to focus on, leave healing to the healers

They use their abilities automatically and it's better that way, but you could add /petattack to your kill command for example so that the pet always attacks your target and doesn't wander off somewhere with cleave on

#

I think you’re super overthinking this

#

What do you mean by more precise and smarter? What timings? What’s barbed shot layering? What utility specifically and what potential?

#

The macro is all you’re ever going to need in regards to pet attack timings

night sage
#

Actually it's a lot wonkier and increases your APM by a mile if you need to spam a keybind so that the pet always attacks 0.3 seconds faster, you need a faster finger for that to happen. It's better to focus on other fundamentals than the pet attack, having it on auto is 100% best option

#

Bite for example has 3 sec cd and costs 25 focus and has 5 yd range, theres no way making it faster than it already is other than by having your pet be where it matters which is next to the mob

fallow dock
#

You’re not theorycrafting anything tbh

#

Misdirect doesn’t work on BM

night sage
#

I understand minmaxing I know a thing or two about it, but theres no minmax gain in manual pet ability

fallow dock
#

We’re not layering anything on barbed shot, at most we spread it across multiple mobs

#

Using intimidation is not minmax that’s just how the ability works

#

And I also wouldn’t call binding shot minmax

#

Like, again, I think you’re very focused over something that doesn’t exist, you’d be better off just getting really good at the rotation/priority

#

No they don’t lol

#

Misdirection doesn’t work on pet Aggro

#

What damage does your burst opener contain from yourself

#

3 barbed shots?

#

Literally no m+ build uses misdirect idk what to tell you

#

If you think the guidewriters and co are wrong you’re free to write that in guide feedback

#

No, I told you all your minmax points didn’t exist

#

There’s no barbed shot layering and manually casting pet abilities doesn’t increase your damage

#

That’s so weird that nobody including the guidewriters and rank 1 hunters know about it

#

Yeah exactly

#

Cause that’s all there is

night sage
#

I mean fez you also did say it's better without showing any proof

#

That it's better dmg wise to do what you stated

#

I have no other proof myself to give you other than you're the one asking for advice and help and I'm the one with experience and resume

fallow dock
#

The dot is one of the smallest reasons why we press barbed

#

You’re looking for minmaxes where there are none

#

No

#

You’re not theorycrafting

#

Your feelycrafting

#

If you want to theorycrafting, you provide a sim that proofs

#

kekw

I see what you're saying, the net gain is very minimal though and taking big risks for losing a cast of KC is usually not worth it, if you can fit everything in and do the best overall dmg ever then you might be onto something but it's different to do big dmg for the first 3 sec and then mediocre than to always do good rotation.

I respect the commitment to minmaxing, but:

  1. No, the only way to maximize Claw etc is to maximize how many you cast. The best way to do that is to macro them into your abilities.

  2. Your first global pet charges your pet into melee pretty much instantly, so pet pre-positioning should have no effect.

  3. Barbed Shot layering like you suggest is a massive DPS loss. In an ST situation, you just lose ToTH/Frenzy uptime. In an AoE situation, you just Barbed Shot 2 different targets for the same effect.

  4. Misdirection is not worth running for BM, mostly because BM generates almost no threat from the Hunter on AoE and there are better places to put the talent.

  5. every top hunter does it I have been the rank 1 BM Hunter for 2/3 raids this expansion, rank 2 in Amirdrassil. I know pretty much every other Hunter in the top 50 either closely or indirectly. Nobody does this. I can promise you this with 1000% certainty. It is not worth doing. You seem to hyper-focus on the advantage (slightly higher Barbed Shot uptime), not realizing a few things:

  6. Barbed Shot's average CD is lower than its duration thanks to resets which are plentiful. You get close-to-100% uptime just by pressing it on CD.

  7. There is an opportunity cost to your suggestion, which is that you are postponing you reaching 4 stacks of Thrill of the Hunt (2% crit per stack) and 3 stacks of Frenzy (30% pet attack speed per stack). You are also losing Stomp damage (triggered by Barbed Shot) in the long run.
