#Imported Buster Sword with or without changes has deformations

Any idea why the upper part of the buster sword looks off? I made a change to the buster sword, but the upper part looked weird, always. So to make sure it was not caused by my changes, I just loaded the default model and exported it without any changes and the reimported model has the same issue. Any Idea what could cause this?

#

btw, I feel like it might be an import issue? This is also the first time for me doing anything with blender tho. So I might miss something.

Imported Buster Sword with or without changes has deformations

It's hard to see what the deformation is?
When you do a Blender export, you have to use the correct settings. Maybe that's why? I'm away from my PC right now so I can't pull up the settings. Will post back later

Btw, this is the first time for me doing anything with blender.

#

This is a bit more visible. the shapes in the upper part are a lot more defined with more depth as they stand out

#

This is how I set up the export settings. Mesh-Tangents and Attributes enabled and Vertex Colors set as active including export all vertex colors, but I left everything else as default.

I use the same export settings except I uncheck Animation and I usually choose glTF Embedded

#

The left side image is after running through Mdlconverter?

fresh crag
#

Yes for the first picture the left one. For the second picture the right one

minor thunder

Also, just double checking, are you using the latest version? 1.3.1?

fresh crag
#

Yes, latest one.

#

I tried the same with Invictus and it looks fine

minor thunder
#

Weird

#

Did you test running it through Mdlconverter but not opening it in Blender and just converting it back?

fresh crag
#

Nope, I'll try it

#

interesting, same issue, no export/import.

minor thunder
#

Oof then we'll need @lavish marsh to revisit the code but I don't know if he has time lately and it may not be easy to figure out what the issue is.

the normals are the issue

#

not sure why it would break on that but not anywhere else though

minor thunder
#

Thanks for chiming in ^^
I'm not experienced enough to spot that immediately heh

minor folio
#

im not 100% sure but it looks like the normals are being exported into blender in an already broken state - blender is importing 1:1

fresh crag
#

This is how it looks like after the import

minor folio
#

yeah then its definitely the normals being broken on those parts

minor thunder
#

Well the normals are being broken even without Blender

minor folio
#

oh well then

fresh crag
#

I was really hoping for goofy beginner mistake on my part

minor folio
#

if you know how to edit the mesh, maybe see if the parts are welded? if not then separate all the parts that are at a 90 degree angle so theyre all flat

#

if its any solace, it looks like a cool effect that i might use if i started making models again so its inspired me somewhat

fresh crag
#

Oh I have zero clues about that, need to read a lot of guides I think xD

minor folio
#

its not a very hard problem to fix but thats assuming the fix im suggesting would even work

#

it mighgt be something else but im hopeful it isnt

fresh crag
#

thanks, I will definitely watch some tuts, but it looks like a steep learning curve

fresh crag
#

thanks a ton 😄

#

now the buster sword got a lot bustier

minor thunder
#

What'd you change? Is it bigger?

#

Still pretty odd that the normals got broken though

fresh crag
#

yep, I hated how small it was, that was the change I wanted to do.

minor thunder
#

Haha okay

fresh crag
#

Now I really need to find out what exactly I did, definitely won't be able to replicate this

#

I used several modifiers (edge split /smooth by angle over 90° and some others)
