#What about an "Infinite war mode" ?

all until 1 person takes the whole map and decides to afk forever
this could be so cool!! u could trigger the catastrophes against the crown as a way to rebalance the map when one player gets too big, and have a bunch of islands so that it’s harder for smaller players to be eliminated!! then the vying for power would be constant, you have large players growing and falling constantly and by disincentivising eliminating smaller players (not sure how exactly u would do that) u could try and balance for longer matches by also punishing crown. so a lot of the game experience would be rebuilding, and allying would be super important - maybe something like a trade alliance as a way to exclude enemies/larger players from eco. could also be good to cultivate a stronger clan scene, which clan can hold the map the longest etc.
would also probably pose technical problems keeping so large a game open for so long but maybe in the future
would need heavy reworks tho to try and maintain a constant middle game
it gives me an r/place vibe where the game is live and u could have different communities vying to be the best
maybe would be cool for charity events and livestreams
good concept but there r issues like this
prob a max size would be good, or just a softcapped size where u can go to like 10% or 5% of the map and as u get more size it gets harder to grow
Yeah not sure how new players would be able to get into the map
it cant really work because this game isnt built for local power which would allow for people to spawn in mid game its literally built for global power
Bump
They can take control of existing nations, or players who go afk (afk players can be controlled by bots). I imagine a 24 hour lobby will have many players will be going in and out
Completely circumstantial though
And such nations will eventually run out
New ones can spawn. Maybe as breakaway states, that could be a mechanic to lengthen the game
You'd need a more sustainable mechanism. Something like, you can only attack smaller nations who are approximately your size. Then you allow people to boat in or something to establish 5 pixel beach heads or something
What does it even mean for a new nation to spawn when all the map is taken up? Someone existing just has to give up their territory?
Something like that
How would that even work? Does the new player decide? What prevents them from just taking dense city areas? Or is it random? What prevents an island nation from being completely replaced by an incoming player.
I just don't think it's constructive to "bump" this thread until you have a well formulated idea of how this would work.
Well id want to make it simple, otherwise it would be a different game. Just slow the game down, expansion becomes much slower. If players get too big too fast they lose territory (breakaways on the periphery/most recently acquired), so small island countries won’t be affected. Exiting players become AI. Breakaways territories become AI. New players can take control of any AI nation/bot. It should be in principle possible to take the whole map but make it extremely difficult and nearly inevitable that large players will break apart
