#Tanks. Like boats, but on land.

One thing that has been incredibly annoying for a while is that there is absolutely no way to target a specific area if it is inland, only if it's by water and you use a boat.

I suggest the addition of a "Tank", it can be called anything else but the principle remains. Tanks would function similarly to boats allowing you to send a concentration of units to one specific area, and then the units will attack outwards of there.

A tank should only be able to operate through your own borders and should have to drive for some time before reaching the enemy, not instantly. I am not entirely sure how this would work but two ideas spring to mind. Either tanks can only be deployed through defence posts or they would simply spawn from [x] distance to your border. Although I am in favour of the defence post version.
I also think tanks should move slower through mountainous land than plains, as troops do.
Tanks should also come with a warship-esque land based unit that can shoot them down. (Perhaps air support?)

Tanks like boats should be limited in number, I suggest 2 instead of 3 as I think many tanks on many fronts could become quite overwhelming and too difficult to counter.

I believe tanks will genuinely improve the game, and will fix a lot of grievances players have with focusing attacks, limiting their numbers and providing a counter to them should serve as to not make them overly OP, more or less how boats act now, and I don't think they will significantly increase the skill required to play the game, if you can use boats, you can use tanks.
