We need them. They were a key component to the game in v23 and v24, where many people still fawn over both of those versions. Not only that, they allowed for strategies that are much more flexible than just "get lucky", and required for more skill to be involved. I suggest adding a separate lobby that re-adds workers, so people can play both non-worker and worker versions of the game.

Put more of your population on workers, you have less soldiers. Put more of your population on soldiers, have less money growth

I think they should work together, like if you have trains and workers, you should have workers be in the factories, and if you don't have enough workers by not having enough land or too few cities, those factories make nothing
A factory's amount of workers should also be multiplicative up to a point (just like how cities start at 125k, then 250k, 500k then 1M)
And not just a factory, but ports too
I think the idea with train is workers are in train factorys makeing train what make money
i stayed after games and play by my self and i dont know how trains calculate its no counter more factorys= more trains

Those who say they were pointless didn’t use them properly and also didn’t win a game strategically. Workers could make you money whilst at the same time could make you look weaker. Countless times I’d have 50% workers and someone would break their alliance and attack just to find out I had 200k pop instead of the 100k they thought. It made the game more enjoyable and opened more opportunities for gold and attacks now it’s all about who can send a large boat in and while the boat is transporting you just recoup the amount you sent. Meaning if I send a boat into you and you and I both have 100k troops but I sent 50k to attack you if timed right I could theoretically have recouped the 50k I sent so when the boat hits it really attacking with a force of 150k if that makes sense. It’s busted and ruins the game

i think you should start with no troops and troops cost gold per second if you cannot afford them they defect and go back to work or get added to the enemy troops if your being invaded

There were many complaints about how useless workers were. Workers were only useful for islandmaxxing players

I liked workers, simple way to add variety to strategy. Build up economy while surrounded by allies. If people don't want workers they can go 100% troops anyway.
