I was playing a game of Openfront recently and got nuked into oblivion by the enemy player (human). Props to them, but the warning I got was from them on discord and I didn’t see the nukes coming until they hit. I propose that a basic radar system should be set up, so you’re made aware of incoming nukes BEFORE they hit. It doesn’t need to be a dedicated radar station either, though that could be an option in the future. Instead, every building, port, and silo would provide a big pop up warning when a nuke passes within, say 500 pixels of their center, or something reasonable like that. I’d have to check map dimensions real quick, maybe just 250 pixels. If you think about it, it makes sense that any building could do this because all the buildings you have the option of creating are heavily defended and monitored in real life, with even the most remote outposts having some basic form of early detection.
Of course, the big question is: Why? Why do you need an extra 10-20 seconds of warning? Two reasons. The first: I’ve heard talk on the server here about an anti-ballistic middle system. I don’t know exactly how that could work and how balanced it would be, but something to consider. Secondly: MAD. I believe the developer(s) said something about adding total nuclear destruction to the game, and an early warning system gives you time to launch your own nukes before your Silos are destroyed. Or hey, why not just have a simple two-button interface along the way”YOURE GONNA DIE” pop up giving you the option to full send nukes at your enemy.
