#Getting GOG Spore after already owning EA/Origin Spore

Hey, Spore Discord. This is less a technical support question and more asking for advice before purchase:

I have had Spore since I was a kid, and have owned the game via CD -> Origin -> EA for 15 years. I tried to take the game up for another spin last night after years of not playing, and ran into a slew of issues attempting to run it (game crashes, not recognizing COC/GA, connectivity issues), and have read that many of these issues popped up when Origin was shuddered and all accounts were forced to migrate to EA's Launcher.

I know that it is possible to fix the game and make it playable through EA, but many of the sources I have also read simply say that GOG's edition of Spore is not plagued with many of these launcher issues (and has no DRM!) While I don't particularly want to rebuy a game I have already owned, I also want to have a game that is playable and doesn't force me to use a pseudo-spyware launcher.

My one main question if I do buy GOG's edition of Spore, though: is if I will need to make another account with EA. I have read there have been issues with EA giving official verification to new accounts buying from GOG, but I wonder if this is something I can dodge simply by already owning an account directly through EA.

This is exactly what I did myself! You can reuse your same account, no issues there - all accounts work on all supported versions of the game

You do get new serial keys from GOG which can be used to make a new account, but you can ignore these, you don’t need them at all if you’re reusing your existing account

One thing I will stress, make sure to fully uninstall the EA app version of the game before installing the GOG version
