So the new Heavy Suppression Frigate do what standard Suppression Frigates already do but better? so it's like the special abilities "do what ships already do but better"? Personally, I don't like this game design choice, these are the most boring and uninteresting types of ship variants and special abilities in my opinion. I believe that the ship variants should be totally opposite of its usual combat role, its more interesting and compelling in gameplay than "do what they already do but better", for example, an artifact that introduces an Ion Cannon Frigate into dedicated anti-small, fast targets, or Assault Frigate variant into dedicated anti-large, slow targets. The artifact variants should introduce unusual combat roles of existing units in game. In my honest opinion, that's more interesting design choice than "do what they already do but better"
Additionally, while the Assault Frigate is a dedicated anti-small, fast targets, I believe the Suppression Frigate should be a close-range general purpose unit, but with a more consistent and high rate of fire instead of burst attacks. I also believe the Ion Cannon Frigate should be a long-range unit like the Torpedo Frigate, but while the Torpedo Frigate is a long-range general purpose unit, the Ion Cannon Frigate should be a long-range dedicated anti-large, slow targets. The close-range frigates should have the same circle attack pattern by default, while the long-range frigates should have the same backing off attack pattern by default, it would be better if we could preset specific attack patterns for specific ships though
