So there's a few things I feel that could improve the game in a few ways.
1: Bigger storage. This doesn't necessarily even need to be on the player, let us stack things in storage to higher numbers. Even if we have to upgrade our cardboard boxes or craft better boxes that we can't carry around, these boxes would have a bigger stack limit for items or even more rows for things.
2: More storage color options. Pretty straightforward, although if the bigger storage happens we may not need this.
3: Inventory add-ons for either the drone or the hover bike. Bonus on if we could get a drone that could haul items back to the farm for a small amount of cash.
4: More enemy info. After gathering information on enemies, perhaps after a bit you could potentially unlock seeing an enemies health bar.
5: More diversity in the tech tree. I'll be honest, before the first year was done, I had already capped 2 of the 3 skill trees even if I can't really make use of certain features, like mushrooms. Diversifying it a bit more into what kind of farmer you can be would be interesting, along with the ranching thing, maybe also having a combat talent based on you doing melee with the tools or using the drone? I dunno, just spit balling.
6: Fishing bait or a fish trap would be cool. Maybe even renting the boat or getting a drone specially for water and attaching a net to it and letting it drag and catch things would be neat and could add in new fish types.
7: Instead of using our drone to fight, why not let our drone be a medic? It can maybe give us a shield, heal a tiny bit of health or even revive us if we fall at the cost of an insane amount of energy or instead it could rescue us but that wouldn't be usable again for a day or so.
8: Upgrades for the hover bike? Improve the energy, put spikes on the bumper, better thrusters or something. This could be a new service offered by an NPC.
9: Mutated crops. What does this mean you might ask. Well what if sometimes the crop grew bigger than normal, or it had a higher quality than usual and sold for more? Could also be a component to make Delicious meals easier?
10: More mining options or nodes. I love mining. But it feels so lacking in this game.
11: Overcharge your workstations: Let us run some of our crafting equipment on overdrive so they complete faster using up more power/energy, but at the risk of damaging the equipment and requiring either the patches or the repair tools to fix it so they can be used again.
12: Drones for the farm and more: Drones are everywhere. We got drones for selling. Drones for fighting. Drones for assembly and dismantling. Why not get some drones that are programmed to handle certain tasks like watering, seeding, harvesting and placing either in storage or the sell box?
13: More things to craft or upgrade: So we've got the steel tools but is this it? Is this the peak of what we can get? Would we not be able to make different weapons or something? Like a sword or even a bow or gun? I think Orlando even outright states he has a gun and we see a few characters that say they have other weapons.
14: Different enemies: I admittedly haven't made it to any other areas beyond the wetlands so correct me if I'm wrong, but more enemy types than just drones and a few monsters would be cool. Some rogue robots, pirates/bandits or some new monsters/mutated creatures in general would be cool.
15: More quests for the town/improvements: I personally would love to have more things to do and/or turn in to the main towns board which would then start to change or improve things around town. Such as buildings getting repaired/changed.
16: Wandering NPC's: As we expand our efforts with the other towns and form alliances, let NPC's from these other regions come and visit Doloc and wander around and give the illusion that life is returning and the town is bustling. You don't even need to name these NPC's or have dialogue with them.
