Dear Lightbearers,

In this developer update, we want to focus on another topic that frequently comes up in our player feedback: "Why do the free resources in the game feel so scares?" In our surveys and community interviews, concerns regarding insufficient free Pinnacle Energy and a shortage of free Lumia Leaves often rank at the top of the list.

In our previous developer update, we explained the design philosophy behind Pinnacle Energy and shared a preliminary look at our time schedule for future design iterations. The current daily caps and stacking mechanics were originally designed with the intention of promoting efficient daily playtime and healthy player habits. However, we acknowledge that for players who want to grind for longer sessions, the diminished returns once Pinnacle Energy runs out can be frustrating. This is especially true when you urgently need specific materials to break through progression bottlenecks to take on harder challenges, or when you want to quickly build a brand-new character to experience a fresh combat style.

We believe the new design solutions we mentioned in our last developer update will greatly improve this situation. But until then, we are thrilled to announce that for the upcoming Season 3, we will be launching a special "Free Pinnacle Energy Drop" event to help players better tackle the new challenges Season 3 brings! During this event, players can easily earn a substantial amount of free Pinnacle Energy every day. This event will last for the entire season!

Regarding free Lumia Leaf rewards, our philosophy has always been to ensure free-to-play players can enjoy the game without barriers. Therefore, our design was structured to provide a large amount of free Lumia Leaves and the 'Bon Voyage' Charm upfront, followed by ample monthly rewards for free-to-play players to keep up with the latest character releases through consistent gameplay. However, after analyzing the data on Lumia Leaf earnings for active players in Season 1, we found that the median amount obtained fell short of our expectations. Specifically, the yield from modes like Calamity Ops and Bounties deviated from our original design plans.

Similarly, we are currently planning structural adjustments to our free rewards system. We firmly believe that active players are the foundation of a healthy game ecosystem, and we do not want monetization to become a wall that prevents players from experiencing the game's content. The major update coming early next year will bring significant improvements on this front.

But to bridge the gap—let's boost the rewards! If you haven’t already tried out yet, we have increased the distribution of free rewards for the Dawning event. Players will be able to easily claim summoning resources equivalent to over 2,000 Lumia Leaves, a good amount of extra Pinnacle Energy, and tons of upgrade materials.

As we have often said, it is the support of all you Lightbearers that allows us to continuously improve Destiny: Rising. We hope you have fun with the content and changes mentioned above!

Tbh I felt like this game was very FTP/light spender friendly compared to other gotcha style games. Always glad to see more free stuff though, I like the pinnacle energy changes as well.

My main frustration is the lack of transparency. Sure, keeping the pinnacle energy rework a secret for now is fine, but why the secrecy around the materials?

2000 leaves worth of summoning materials? At least clarify if they’re permanent or limited draws, bring more guidlines into the game, as I said before, the global-launch event that showed the 120 draws and 12k lumia leave sources should have been a permanent guideline.

Outside of seasonal events like the dawning, the occasional small event rewarding 1-2 pulls should be permanent and refreshed every now and then.

Morgran’s Hunt should be active every other week, it’s not like people return to the game for that event; they’ve got plenty of daily things to do.

Also, just more communication. More than a month between blog posts is really bad. Hire your own version of DMG, an individual that communicates on a daily basis whenever the community shows collective frustration. Clarify seasonal reworks, address glows and their predatory nature, boost Bright Dust and Pigment gains, etc.

Pinnacle Energy and Lumia Leaves aren’t the only main frustration, they’re just the one that’s voiced the most because your surveys don’t have the “other materials” option

I really appreciate this as someone who’s been frustrated by the current pinnacle energy system. It’s a tricky thing to balance a game for multiple platform skews given the differences in design ethos and expected playtime, but I feel like arbitrarily limiting the amount of activities a player could effectively engage with each day was just antithetical to fun. I’m glad that this is beginning to change and I’m very much looking forward to seeing this game expand beyond the limits of a simple mobile gacha title. I’m under no illusions that capital is what’s most important to NetEase’s bottom line so I don’t expect things to change too radically in favor of free-to-play fans like myself, but this at least goes to show that they are attempting something akin to a more balanced environment.

As it stands, monetization is a bit of a wall for me in terms of personal enjoyability. I’m a story first gamer. I love well written narratives and character arcs which is something that Destiny Rising has the massive potential to cultivate long term. Locking a lot of that behind limited banners is something that, while understandable from a business perspective, I find very disappointing and discouraging. I’m not proffering up any concrete solutions here as I’ve no real idea how to run a quality live service game, but I do wonder if there were some way to more easily obtain or otherwise experience the stories of various different characters that wasn’t so immediately tied to FOMO. It would likely require a lot of structural alterations in order to benefit both the player base and NetEase’s shareholders, but I do genuinely think a level of balance can be reached that will satisfy all parties involved. I know for a fact that the more I enjoy a game – the more time I spend playing – the more likely I am to spend money on it simply out of support for those who created something I can have fun with.

We're basically here rn. Like, if we're comparing D:R to other gachas, there's not even main story every patch, it's just a couple PvE maps and character stories that aren't even playable in full if you don't get the character. Not to mention no new Strikes, no new PvP maps(even though Iron Bar is actually dead), no core game rituals to participate in for loot. By the end of my weeklies, if I even participate in them, I'm just running Legendary Campaign every day and logging back out. It's not super fun.

Creating progression bottlenecks (both by bad game design and by attempting to boost monetization gains) everywhere will always make energy systems a huge pain point. If we didn't have those walls throwing a huge spotlight over the pinnacle energy system, you would be able to achieve your supposed goal of healthy daily game play.

But most mobile companies put monetization first, even if it means sacrificing the chance of making a good game, for short term profits. Good games will always bring more money in the long run.

Lets see what will happen later with these updates.

Many words, little substance. Give us specifics! Exactly HOW are we going to be able to earn extra pinnacle energy? What does the “Free Pinnacle Energy Drop” event actually require? How many lumia leaves did you expect us to earn in season 1, and how many did we actually earn? How exactly will the major update improve the FTP experience? Why has it taken so long to make adjustments like this?

Expanse 40 should have given Dice

Getting 1 Dice a season, just for it to roll something worse feels really bad

Game is very f2p friendly and harder for spenders to get ahead. In terms of limited resources the demand is high because we have to keep upgrading new characters to be competitive in end game content. I'm able to succeed f2p because I've been very selective and careful in upgrading my characters. I enjoy being very frugal and intentional but I can understand people being frustrated after upgrading a non-meta characters and weapons which will set them behind and stop them from competing in end game content.

I’m not f2p, but I also struggle with running out of pinnacle or limited as to where I can use my pinnacle week to week… the point of my post was to show that people are commenting on this new development as they shouldn’t be doing it at all because they’ve been successful getting 3 competitive characters out of the 16 currently available (even less if you didn’t manage to pull prior LE ones)

Honestly for calamity they should remove the ability to use unstuck and no more reviving oneself after a certain time… then speedrunning wouldn’t be about skips, but actually trying to get through it as fast as possible… I’m tired of competing for top ranks against computer players that can easily keep trackers for timing skips

I'd love an End Game mode that instead of Speed being what makes it hard. Make it actually challenging. Something that will make you want to take a tank, support and DPS to survive, instead of 3 DPS who all have movement abilities

I dont think stamina was ever the root of the issue we had...4 cores per a legendary campaign run? Do u realize how boring it is to run this dozens of times/week to get any decent amount of cores? And Photons have a nonexistent drop rate, its so low, it's a mythical item of mere legend around here. And the only way to get Clusters is calamity and a few from events, which is the biggest upgrade wall for most of us. The only players that arent in need of clusters are the players who have been consistently getting overseer every reset.

He likes to improve the weapon upgrade reward, as currently it's extremely difficult to upgrade weapons due to the high rewards. He also wants to maintain the method for obtaining legendary weapons but increase their rewards. However, the problem is the scarcity of free weapon upgrade parts and the orbs used to upgrade the Agent Tree.

This game desperately needs content, there’s actually no reason left to play the game for me. I mean first I was upset I didn’t have enough pinnacle energy. And now after playing for like 2 months straight I’m already out of things to do and even if I wanted to play something, the game is so dependent on matchmaking and it’s so dead that there’s even less of a reason to play

In my opinion right now the biggest problem were pinnacle energy vs basic rewars:

If you are our of pinnacle energy then it's impossible to get almost any resources without them.

For example in Destiny 1/2 I could progress my character , without any limitations, so I could play game without any loosing in interest during day, but in Destiny Rising Pinnacle energy made that kind of problem😔

So ig you should not just remove some resources from basic rewards, my suggest is just simply lower chances or amount of items for basic rewards: shifting gates give 25 points with pinnacle, or for example 6 as basic reward(lowered in x4), and exotic weapon, chance 5% with pinmacle or 1.25-2% without.

That would make game a lot funnier and interested to play. But anyways thank you for your work❤️

I think they backed themselves into a corner with perk rarities affecting power, making 99% of all perks combos in the game basically worthless. Id farm a strike for a weapon with a specific combo if it wasn't easier to just get mythic engram parts and pull the same weapon Im looking for repeatedly.

The artifact upgrade process needs to be reworked. No way we need to spend 150 pinnacle energy worth of essences in Chaos to get only a single 15 re-roll that gives, 99% of the times, +10 score.

Not even the daily 120 are enough for an entire round of re-rolls. That's just crazy considering we have a total of 16 characters with 4 artifacts each, 64 artifacts in total. With the current system, there's no encouragement to try or max out non-meta characters tbh.

Chaos keeps giving us other artifacts that are not even in our Wish List, even though we're spending precious and very limited daily Pinnacle Energy on it. What's the point on the Wish List if it can't guarantee us those 4 artifacts only to be dropped?

It's good that you guys are reworking the Pinnacle Energy, it's needed. You can use those 120 in less than 20 minutes daily. Or having to decide whether we want essence or farm raid weapons or morgran's materials. Is just not enough.

Along all that, game is desperate for end-game content, actual content, not recycled stuff like Chaos/Expanse or more Calamity in the same few strikes.

I know it doesn't have much to do with the game, but I want to point out that both fates have been fully translated into Italian or at least into many languages. I'm talking about the interface; if some AI could have multiple languages, I think it would be accessible to many more people. I know several people who currently can't access the game due to their lack of native language and the lack of an official launcher.

2 big paragraphs for what essentially is just giving us 2 or 3 more activity completions a day. Doesn't fix much. If it's double energy for the entire season then it's a good change. Giving us 40-60 energy or something miniscule doesn't do anything other than get people's hopes up for more bandaid fixes

An “Ok” changes for now, but the game desperately needs End-Game content and just more content in general which is new and not recycled. I don’t mind recycling events or content but you gotta give us something new in between. Also limiting playtime of players and searching for a “healthy player habits” is just not it tbh, because players will just go and play another game that doesn’t limit the playtime and grind it all day after they are done with their 20mins in DR. This is not good for the game’s health so I don’t know what you’re trying to achieve just let us play the game for however time we want. I really hope that you guys read all these comments and suggestions and try to implement things faster instead of making us wait for months and lose interest in the game by the time you decide to fix something or release it.

Just stop with all the fancy looking login events and random marketing pushes for cosmetic events, take all that money dumped into botting trailer views on youtube and put it into PROPER CAMPAIGN CONTENT or REPLAYABLE RAID ENDGAME
The game has sauce first time through but there's been almost nothing with proper gameplay substance since launch so all compliments are in past tense.
Simply adding new weapons and characters in the sandbox isn't going to hold the attention of players if it's just the same activities people have done hundreds of times

I’m also crossing my fingers that your “major update” that is coming in season 4 is actually major and good for the game’s sake, because almost all players have high hopes for that update. Like don’t make us wait for months just to get disappointed please… the game has a lot of potential and needs a lot of more hard work from you guys to make it successful and make players play it for years to come.

Problem is they only keep adding 1 more character a month, as if that would be all the content we need. I understand they want to earn money, but at least give us new fresh content. Tossing money to useless new characters isn't it.

Plus, we have 16, with current pool of characters you're more than capable of doing absolutely any current or future content, why add more? They should stop launching new ones, start rotating the old ones (Gwynn, Estela, Helhest, Maru, etc) and give us actual content that we can grind for decent/exciting rewards.

This is one of the examples where "more" doesn't mean "better". After wasting ~800$ into T6'ing Jaren, i felt kind of disappointed, yea it's a cool character, it has swag, but it feels weak af compared to others, especially in Expanse 31-40. How come being 75K god roll BiS artifacts T6 taking me so much to take down a simple elite fully buffed swallowing entire shotgun mags? Considering Jaren is an effing legend in the lore, it's even disrespectful. I felt so upset with this that i decided to stop putting money into the game.

Personally, game's like you gotta build an entire bread. That's your goal, but you will get a little grain of breadcrumb daily. Good luck! Have fun!

Daily energy should AT LEAST, be doubled: 240 daily, 720 max capacity. Or just remove the energy mechanic from the game, let us farm how much we want, we gonna play whatever, either this game or another. And believe me, you don't want, that's the best way to lose audience. People will get addicted to other games and never come back. Which is what's happening right now. My friend list is a graveyard of old folks. People never logging back after 40, 60, 80 days or more.

So it's up to NetEase if they want to see this game as a long-term thing or not. Sucks to see a game with huge potential slowly dying 🙁

I'll care about this when there are actual solo end game pursuits to go for other than doing the expanse to leaderboard chase for no reward other than a number.

How we still only have a single raid to do, and no content in the design direction of dungeons is beyond me at this stage.

These are good changes, but the battle pass also needs to be reworked. It's unacceptable that f2p players only unlock new weapons at level 50—by then, they barely need them anymore, especially since they won't be able to upgrade the weapon's Catalyst beyond level 1. Meanwhile, new players will never be able to purchase older weapons because the weapon token system is complete garbage.

honestly i think pinnacle energy should be kept but the rewards for them should be transfer over to basic rewards, pinnacle energy will be use to earn exp and faction point only to still create a form of limitation this way we could grind adventures without loot limitation especially when its kinda unfair that you could go through 120 pinnacle in less than 15 mins in singularity chaos. another thing pinnacle could be use is to double the rewards also so using no pinnacle will give you the loot available while using pinnacle will be the equivalent of wasting 40 pinnacle for double rewards, this is to me make more sense in the uses of pinnacle energy making it still useful to the game while not hindering the player grind experience

Hey Devs, love the game, but these changes would massively help retention and endgame health:

  1. Pinnacle Energy vs Basic Rewards (biggest issue)
    If you’re out of Pinnacle Energy, progression basically stops. Pinnacle should be a bonus, not a gate.
    Suggestion: keep basic rewards always available, just lower rates/amounts. Example: Shifting Gates 25 pts w/ Pinnacle, 6 w/o, Exotic chance 5% w/ Pinnacle, 1.25–2% w/o. Legendary Campaign cores/photons should be base rewards, then 2x–3x with Pinnacle.

  2. More upgrade materials (needs to scale with roster)
    Add more ways to earn: Exotic Infusion Cores, Superposed Photons, Metastable Cores, Occultation Essence.

  3. Elemental Fruits
    Please add Elemental Fruits as earnable rewards via Iron Commander, ideally Gauntlet Blitz.

  4. More endgame variety (not just speedrunning)
    More raids/dungeons, plus a Trials-style endgame PvP mode.

  5. Content variety
    More PvP maps, more strikes, and more main story content (not only character quests).

  6. Battle Pass, Catalyst Band 3
    If we buy the BP, we should realistically get enough dupes/tokens to reach Band 3, right now we fall behind. Please rebalance token/dupe economy.

  7. Dice economy
    More ways to earn Amorphous Dice, and a F2P path for Miraculous Dice (weekly/event track is fine).

  8. Expanse 31–40 overtuned?
    Feels too hard even above 72k recommended. Love challenge, but please review tuning or clarify intended requirements.
