The fireplace doesn't sit against the wall. Solid stone floors/foundations the walls line up/lock in, but the fireplace locks in and half of it is through the wall.

I took my wall out there at my dock workers quarters, I put it mostly outside (because that is the only way the chimney fits also) and built around it.
At least at my house, it was easier to build around it with stone (doesn't look "as tacky")
