I have had to restart 3 times now due to the corrupted save file issue. Steam cloud is off. Last night, the corruption issue happened and I could not load the game. I went back to an earlier save, which did load, but my character created last night was gone. This morning, I was able to load the save from last night (which did not work then) and my character is there. However, I cannot connect to my Gportal server. I CAN connect to a solo game with it. Why does the now workable save file work solo but not with a private server? Please help! I do not want to start over AGAIN!
#[Solved] Corrupted save - loads solo now but will not connect to private server

Same (or very similar) issue here. We had a corrupt save last night that loads 100% fine in single player but boots everyone back to the menu if we drop it on our dedicated server.
try doing this
the world you have on your PC is the world you need on the GPortal?
Already tried that. Did not help. I DMed you logs and our world files earlier this morning.
Just to be sure - on the server, I have 'default' and 'default_backups'. Which am I going into?
Thank you. Can you please verify the file path on my computer?
can you open Default for me please and send a new screenshot
@queen briar Screenshot here is of the server - I think I'm in the right place now. Just need to clarify where to go on the local side.
you have the world you need on your local machine, right?
I'm sorry, not sure how to answer that. If I launch the game from steam, my character is there. I can connect to a 'solo' game, no problem. I cannot connect to our Gportal server. Last night, before the corruption issue, I was able to connect to our Gportal server, no problem.
I think the server world is outdated? Is there a way you can update it to the latest version?
Hmm, I'm looking at the Gportal site but don't see a version. Do you happen to know how to verify in Gportal?
Sorry. I do not know how. I mostly play solo. Maybe you can shoot gportal support a message?
Ah, found it - Version 0.10.0.5.120. So I think it's updated. However, I'm restarting it now, to make sure.
Crossing fingers 🤞
Yes, I connected! Looks like, after making sure Gportal was updated and making sure my most recent (and previously corrupted) save was loaded locally and on the server, I can connect!!!!! Thank you @naive mulch and @queen briar !!! ❤️
Awesome!! Happy it worked for ya!
Fix: Corrupted Save Works Solo but Won’t Connect to Private Server
Symptoms
Save file was corrupted, then later loads fine in solo
Character shows up locally again
But connecting to a private/dedicated server fails or kicks you to menu
Important Context
A previously noted workaround was to load an older backup to bypass corruption.
That works — but:
If your character was created after that backup, it will appear “lost.”
You’re effectively rolling the world back in time.
This creates a mismatch between your local world and the server world.
What Actually Fixed It
- Undo the rollback [https://discord.com/channels/1260209458924224542/1500359619845820546] (if you used an older backup)
Go back to your most recent save
Even if it was corrupted before, use the one that now loads correctly - Confirm your local save works
Launch solo
Verify your latest character is present - Update your server
Make sure your server (Gportal, etc.) is on the latest game version
Restart the server - Sync the correct world
Ensure the same, most recent save file is being used:
Locally
On the server
Do NOT use an older backup on one side and newer on the other - Restart server again
Let it fully load with the correct save
Result
Once both sides were:
On the same game version
Using the same (most recent) save
…the server connection worked normally, and the missing character returned.
Quick takeaway
If it works solo but not on a server:
Your saves are probably out of sync - usually because one side is using an older backup.
Match the latest working save on both sides, and you should be good.
