I'd personally keep it off untill fixed 😊 you don't really need it unless your playing with your account on multiple computers

sad to hear it diddnt help, I hope they come out with a fix for the issue your having soon, this is to fix corrupt save causing not loading into main menu but I have seen few others with issues such as can't load into servers and can't load game at all (regardless of wether save folder is there or not) I don't know how to fix these🙁

@crude dock I followed the instructions in the video to move the folder to the desktop in the first half. However, my character file is still there when I open the game. Will this affect subsequent program operations?

If you copied it to desktop just delete the whole saveprofiles folder in app data

#

Then when you relaunch game it will generate a new one 😊

You may need to also turn off steam cloud saves as relaunching the game can redownload the corrupted saves

you can check the txt file inside the backup folders for the date it was created, and choose the most recent to todays that is working

this one was 1:50PM on the 2nd

but folders outsside all show same time

you may need to open them and see what one is closer to today the last one probably wont work but the second or 3rd so on until one does

needs to be nearer to today date and time, you may have replaced with one of your older backups

im unsure if that will be fixable unfortunately, id hold onto it to see if a fix comes out but if not may be a loss of progress 🙁 this fix just recovers the latest availabe non corrupt backup it doesn't fix the corruption sadly, but fingers crossed some megamind figures out how to uncorrupt them

Game worked fine last night. Today, this happens to me. I went back through all the 'backups' from today - none of them would load. The first one to load was from yesterday. And my character is GONE. How do I recover a character (created yesterday) and its progress from a corrupted backup file? Or am I just SOL?!?!?! 😭

Id like to add here, I had a similar issue - I think it came from me installing windrose on my Legion GO, when steam asked about cloud saves I cant remember what I selected but loaded up the game no issue - came back to PC and it said local save was out of sync, selected cloud save and game wouldn't load,
Thanks to the video above, I trailled and errored? my way 10 saves back, eventually found one that worked, lost a couple of hours resource grinding but overall ecstatic to get my main back, so thank you Gandalf!

Unsure if you have to do this but I deleted the non working saves each time - loaded the game up 'fresh' to create a character and followed the steps again, eventaully worked!

So i was able to get an old save file loaded (my level 5 character). Its the only one that would let me load the game past the starting screen. Its funny now that i think about it, the level 5 character is when I started playing and progressing with my friends on their server.....wonder if somehow all my progression up to level 10, form level 5 is tied to doing alot of it in co-op? if thats the case, then playing co-op in this game is NOT ready for prime time

Guys im raging, the wouldn't start at all...and after reading the whole cloud save corruption issue, I managed to recover the worlds folder and got that working

#

but my character doesn't load... I've copied over the "players" folder back into the game (steam cloud off now) but then it got stuck on infinite loading.

So after testing 2 things I can't get my character to load now. one of two things happen:

If I just copy over/replace the Players folder, it get stuck on infinite loading
if I copy over both players and accounts, it opens the game, but just basically ignores my player folder and accounts folder maybe?, prompting me to start fresh (tutorial intro, new character)

is there a fix? the backups of the Players folder does not show anything older than today even though I've played several days during the week, only about 6 "backups" all from today once the issue started

likely having conflict with steam cloud saves, best solution is to turn that it off for windrose

my best guess is due to the incremental saves that Windrose/RocksDB uses

i think i cant find mine anymore cause i most likely deleted it through the recycle bin so hoping i can still get it back through a recovery program

you can turn steam cloud saves back on and redownload them (i think cloud saves the backups too)

then do steps in video to remove the corrupt file

you can turn them on to redownload the missing saves that were accidentally deleted,

then back off so steam doesnt redowload the corrupt save when you launch after the fix 🙂

by re-enabling steam cloud saves and downloading the cloud save it should download the whole save profiles folder that you accidentally deleted again and put it back where was 🙂

Oh not the save folder the specific Save data for a certain profile i do have the save folder back and tried from the vid but it doesnt work for me

i dont know what folders go where but you may be able to piece together doing it like that by downloading all files with same date and time and placing them in folder where they should be

ahh then you need to sort by name (highest number should be last), and start at the second to bottom one

and repeat going up one folder until it works 🙂

Yeah it does not show a older backup for me sadly so i was hoping this way i could do it by manually do it that way but i suppose i could try to manually add one back up and see if that works

I dont use cloud and it happened to me. The only thing that worked for me was switching over to the Public Test version.

game saves are local 🙂 even if you connected to a server or multiplayer with friends, (your world save and char save should be backed up too, if you hosted to friends through game you could copy the world file out of the current save folder before replacing with the backup and put the current world save back as the world doesnt usually corrupt it seems to be the character that corrupts)

im unsure how it corrupts the previous saves, but it generates a backup on launch so every time you try launch after it broke it may get just far enough to make a new backup, making it that the second to last isnt any good

if you accidentally deleted all saves and had steam cloud off, you can turn it back on to redownload the saves and try to recover backup 🙂

well, it was the least-interesting building of the set and the easiest to replace.... but still.

Note to self: when doing big projects, exit and relaunch the game every hour or two to force a backup
