#Game stuck on loading screen for the fourth time

That's before even reaching the game menu I should add.
No mods. 57 hours of play time.
And no, the backup fix didn't work.
And yes, I'm playing on just one device.
I launch the game and it's stuck on the first loading screen.
Yup, seems to be a common issue and a fairly critical one.
I can't even play the game now. Have reinstalled, verified integrity of game files, tried backup saves, the lot.
Happened to me...while mid-stream, it locked up in a back alley of Tortuga and I couldn't do anything other than hard power down. Since then, I can't even play the game. It's just dead stuck on loading screen until I hard power down. Fun game 10/10...til then.

At this rate I'll be demanding a refund until they can sort it out - early access is no excuse for a product being unusable.
this will help when you has problem with loading of your worl, this two guys and i, we have problem with loading to main mane, from start up the game, not with loading of the save
I couldn't even get to the main menu when my save was corrupt, it just loaded forever
It seems something about save being corrupt stops the main menu from launching at all
Simply deleting the local save doesn’t fix it, because Steam syncs with the cloud before launching the game and restores the corrupted save. What actually works is completely disconnecting your PC from the internet, deleting the save folder, and launching the game while still offline. It will open normally. Then you can reconnect to the internet, but when Steam syncs again, you must overwrite the cloud save so it does NOT pull the old corrupted one. That’s what solved it for me.
Same here, the game is crashing on startup. I hope this will be fixed soon, I don't want to lose all my progress.

how and why did this happen? Sucks that most have to do all this just to play a game they sank hours into...
For me my game crashed and that seemed to corrupt the save when i reopened it, it wouldnt load, I assume steam straight away uploaded the save from crash that was corrupted it does suck to go back through the backups manually and replace but hopefully they add access to these through the games ui (so it's a character and a list of saves/backups attached) and remove whatever it is that causes a corrupt character to halt game startup
Was playing just fine earlier yesterday then i got off for a bit and tried to log back in later but got stuck on the loading screen trying to get into my friends server. I tried verifying integrity of files off steam and relaunched the game but now i cant even get to the main menu. My game didnt crash but having similar issues and it late so im going to sleep on it and deal with it later.

Played normally this morning. Took a break and loaded just fine getting back in. Tried to quick travel to Tortuga and black loading screen.
This is now third time in a week I have my save file corrupted.
Have tried the backup files, and still can't get even to main screen.
Have tried the save fix program from Nexus mods, still not launching the game.
Disabled the Steam cloud save after first corruption.
Playing solo in my own world. Never played with others in this game.
problem solved!!!! i just turn off cloud saves and game working... i only lose my save while i reinstaled game, but thats not problem for me...

Stuck on loading screen. Tried all sorts of solutions with none working at all. Reinstalling game, verifying the game, turning off cloud then getting back to cloud save, replacing all R5 files besides my saved game and character. None working.
I'll wait til they fix the root issue. I'm not jumping through hoops every time it breaks. Til then, it sits with a negative review.

Save files improvements
Implemented a new storage and backup system for save files
The game now automatically backs up all data every 10 minutes of gameplay and upon exiting
Updated the save file structure for cloud synchronization to minimize syncing issues
Broken save files no longer block the game from loading
Data Recovery UI: If the latest save file for a world or character is found to be broken at startup, a special UI window will appear. Players can either quit the game (e.g., to attempt a cloud resync) or recover data from a backup. The game will automatically offer the latest available one
Save Migration System: Implemented a system to migrate old save files (pre-version %version-number%) to the new format. In most cases, this process is seamless and invisible
Migration Conflict Handling: If the game detects old, corrupted save files that cannot be properly migrated, a notification window will appear with information about the affected files and a prompt to delete them
After downloading the new patch, I tried starting the game again. Same ole same ole. I hear the wailing of Tortuga's ghost wall thing and the sound of waves....and nothing else happens. I didn't get any notifications about corrupted saves or anything. Just, nothing ever loads. Fun times.

does anyone know if I would be able to copy by backup save file of character into current game? I am now able to log back into my dedicated server but my player is no longer present.
Uninstalling, put in 56 hours and cant load in on a effing offline account. wild.
I only did verifying files and driver updates to try fix mine then left it. The little patch today got mine working again though.

Aight...I did the previous save thing...lost a day but better than losing the whole character. That being said, this should NOT be a thing we should have to do frequently. I'm hoping today's patch and any others coming are enough to fix this problem for good.
Agreed it didn’t fix a thing. Drake - can you seriously look at the patch released yesterday as it’s not been implemented correctly if we’re all still experiencing these problems. Thanks @dapper sparrow

So I found a strange solution.
If I load my pirate into a brand new world, run the tutorial, and then quit out, I can then load into my main world.
I have to do this every single time I play.
Not ideal, but hopefully it helps someone else.

Early access is no excuse for a product outright not working.
What a ludicrous thing to assume that just because it worked for you it works for everyone else who clearly has the same issue.
I am having the same issue. Loading screen times out. I discovered the same thing as Definitely Reagan. Once I loaded a new character I can switch to my main and play. I do have to log into that new character each time I want to play. Pain in the neck but it's better than not playing.
Glad someone else managed to find the solution. Bizarre how simple it is, but even moreso that it happens at all.

If you're playing solo/offline, joining somebody else's world, or self-hosting, the folder is located here:
- Press Win + R
- Paste the following path:
%localappdata%\R5\
If you're hosting a dedicated server, the folder is located inside the dedicated server root directory:
Windrose Dedicated Server\R5\Saved\
If you're playing on a dedicated server hosted by somebody else, we would greatly appreciate it if you could also share the saves from that server as well (see the previous section for the folder location).
Please also describe:
• where you're playing (which world/server);
• which character is being used;
• any steps that may help us reproduce the issue.
Any additional information, descriptions, or reproduction steps would be extremely helpful for our investigation.

Although I’ve since gained access to the main menu and, as mentioned, can play only if I load my pirate into a new world, quit to the main menu, and load into my old world.
I’ll share this folder too.
well using task manager to close the game as it was stuck on the map loading screen, crashed my Pc - go figure - well off to play something else
Yikes.
Also had my game corrupt. Tortuga is always the source of the crash and at this point that crash always corrupts. Got one back via turning off steam cloud. Then one via backup. At this point I'm spending more time fixing the game than playing it. Hope they get it sorted.

Last time updating my drivers and having my Husband restart his since he's hosting worked
But no update needed this time and a restart did not work.
And it seems no other "solutions" are working for others so I'm not even gonna bother to attempt
By the way, are you playing solo/offine // join a self-host // hosting for others // playing on the dedicated server?

Pure vanilla experience.
Currently it loads “The Archipelago” which is a new world, after which it lets me load “Sylvarant”. Loading the latter first up yields an infinite load screen.
So, currently, based on what we've seen so far, this might be connected to your GPU (what is it, by the way?).
We were able to load into your world using your save files, it just took ~90sec or so, so it seems like the game has frozen.
I could suggest to update the GPU drivers, but honestly, it seems that it is not a save issue

I was logged in yesterday was okay ( graphics looked weird but was okay) cant even log in now, game stuck on loading screen, old world, new world doesn't matter, - updated Graphics drivers Nvidia Ver 596.36 Tue 28 Apr 2026 when game attempted to load an old world my Grpahics across my screens went broken, they swapped positions instead of 1 | 2 they swapped to 2 | 1 and screen "2" went old school grphics terrible quality and MASSIVE icons with crappy resolution - have to Task Manager kill the game to close it, checked integrity etc and still no go, can get to character / world selection screen no probs, I really hope I dont lose characters and worlds like before when saves were a problem! too many hours will be lost

The game will load a new world fine, and only then can I load into my usual world.
How is that GPU related? It's very clearly a problem with your software.
