has anyone had luck fixing the corrupted file issue? I randomly got stuck in the inifinite load last night and today I just get put back to the main menu. I've already tried the replacing files and disabling steam cloud with no luck. Not sure whta else to do considering I was basically at the end of the game and would rather not have to start over right now

I have the same issue. Just stuck in Loading screen, and then goes back to main menu after 5-10 minutes. Only option is to quit.
yeah its really rough. I wish there would be something more concrete to fix it as i really dont want to restart. Sure i have my gear on me, but i dont really want to spend the time to refarm everything and get my boats just to go find and beat the last boss
stepped away for dinner and closed the game just came back and the game wont load in ive tried solo and multiplayer it goes through the loading screen for about 45 seconds i hear the waves and other audio start up like its about to open my game and it just crashes completely. no error message or anything just closes the game...

My game crashed earlier today for the first game. I tried relaunching world and it was an infinite loading screen. I fixed mine after almost 1.5 hours by replacing it with the backup. First few tries didn’t work. I could tell you my process if you’d like. (I know you said you tried this already but maybe I did something different)
Also, have you tried checking to make sure the manifests are both the same.
How did you load back up?
mmm i used a handful of different folders in the backup to no luck. Not sure what else it might be
i turned off game > disable cloud > delete saved > restart game and make character > close game > add folder back > enable cloud >select cloud save on start up. I also tried starting backup with local save only
You can find your backup saves here. This stores the last 30 backup saves.
C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles%your_Steam_ID%_Backups
Before doing anything I turned off the cloud save in steam Via Properties.
First I just made an entire backup of the SaveProfiles folder on my desktop called windrose backups. This way I had the original save and all the backups. Just in case
Second. I checked the Crashes folder and noted the time. Crash time was 6:53. Then I went to the backups and found a 6:51 save. This is the save I restored.
(Optional) Then I deleted the SaveProfiles folder completely. IMPORTANT: IF YOU DO THIS STEP MAKE SURE YOU HAVE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF THIS FOLDER. Next, I launched the game so it would create a new SavedProfiles folder. Exit the game. Doing this erases your character and worlds. HAVE YOUR SaveProfiles BACKUPS!!! After this verify the steam cloud is still disabled. I cannot remember if I had to flip it off again or if came back on.
Next, I copied the 0.10.0 folder from the backup. I went back to the SaveProfiles folder. Instead of going to the backup folder I then went into the other folder, the one with your steam ID. Open that, open RocksDB then paste the 0.10.0 folder in there. replace any items.
Go back to the backup save and this time copy the AccountDescription.Json. Follow the same previous steps that you did the 0.10.0 folder. Back to SaveProfiles, Open SteamID folder (not the backup one), Open rocksdb, then copy the AccountDescription.Json into it, again replace files if asked.
Finally, I went back to steam properties and turned the cloud save back on. I used the cloud save option and not the local one. If i did the local one this didn't work.
Loaded up the game and my save worked. It did crash about 5 mins into the game again and I had to do this again but I just let the game run for about 5 mins next time doing nothing serious and turned down the grapics a notch. Been fine since.

Try going to the main folder, not the backup, and go into worlds. Scroll down and check to see if the "Current" is the same as the "Manifest-#" I had to open the current in notepad to see its number.
https://playwindrose.com/faq/ This is an offical article from Windrose themselves that I used. Its pretty much the same. Only difference I did was deleting the SaveProfiles folder.
When adding the backup back, Make sure you just copy over the 0.10.0 folder and the AccountDescription.Json from inside the backup folder. I was originally copying over the entire backup folder and this was NOT working. Once I only copied over the 0.10.0 folder and AccountDescription.Json it worked.

oh i see it but dont see that as a backup

I was able to get it to work with a back up from 2 days ago.
was a pain in a you know what on Steam OS, but only lost 2 days of game

all of mine say they were made today or something lol

having the same issue, can't seem to make it work :/
I'm having the same issue and also have no idea when it started because all I've been doing is playing on a server, now none of my local worlds work OR any other servers, cos the server I was on had a 2x XP multipler
don't wanna recreate my character but the character repair in WindrosePlus doesn't work for my character save either. 🙁
Guys im raging, the game wouldn't start at all stuck on the "steam play button" goes blue "launching" then nothing, then back to "play" as if the game isn't launched...and after reading the whole cloud save corruption issue, I managed to recover the worlds folder and got that working
but my character doesn't load... I've copied over the "players" folder back into the game (steam cloud off now) but then it got stuck on infinite loading.
So after testing 2 things I can't get my character to load now. one of two things happen:
- If I just copy over/replace the Players folder, it get stuck on infinite loading
- if I copy over both players and accounts, it opens the game, but just basically ignores my player folder and accounts folder maybe?, prompting me to start fresh (tutorial intro, new character)
is there a fix? the backups of the Players folder does not show anything older than today even though I've played several days during the week, only about 6 "backups" all from today once the issue started
i was just playing normally, vanilla, played just fine, closed the game, shut off my pc, went to work, came back, game doesn't work

Implemented a new storage and backup system for save files
The game now automatically backs up all data every 10 minutes of gameplay and upon exiting
Updated the save file structure for cloud synchronization to minimize syncing issues
Broken save files no longer block the game from loading
Data Recovery UI: If the latest save file for a world or character is found to be broken at startup, a special UI window will appear. Players can either quit the game (e.g., to attempt a cloud resync) or recover data from a backup. The game will automatically offer the latest available one
Save Migration System: Implemented a system to migrate old save files (pre-version %version-number%) to the new format. In most cases, this process is seamless and invisible
Migration Conflict Handling: If the game detects old, corrupted save files that cannot be properly migrated, a notification window will appear with information about the affected files and a prompt to delete them
Bit of a weird one, but has only happened since the update - just updated, connected to my server, all fine, quit the game but it hasn't actually quit? And steam says if I stop it, I might lose data
This update does seem to have partially fixed my issue tho!
since the update backups should happen every 10 minutes or so.... os fingers corseed
