#Worker NPCs getting stuck

I have some elevated areas in my base where I've placed some of the craft stations. The workers that are assigned to those stations don't leave the rooms even though they have doors (single doors, 2 tiles wide). When I remove the doors, they do leave the rooms but will go right back inside. If there are stairs (1 or 2 tiles wide) they wont use them and just go back and forth between their station and the top of the stairway.
On ground level, they can go through doorways and use stairs just fine.
