Hello Windrose developers and community,
I'm a Deaf player and I want to raise an important accessibility concern: Windrose currently has no in-game text chat, and that creates a significant barrier for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing (DHH) players.
The common suggestion is to use Discord or TeamSpeak — but those platforms are built around voice communication. For many Deaf and HoH players, voice is not an option. Our primary modes of communication are text-based: written English, ASL gloss, or other visual/written methods. We are a diverse community — not all of us use sign language, and not all of us use voice. What we share is a need for text as our in-game communication tool.
Without an in-game chatbox, DHH players effectively cannot communicate with crewmates, coordinate during co-op, or participate meaningfully in multiplayer. That's not a minor inconvenience — it's a wall that shuts us out of the social core of the game.
Windrose has so much potential to be an inclusive game. I'm not asking for anything complicated — just a basic in-game text chat that lets all players communicate on equal footing.
My request to the developers:
Please prioritize adding in-game text chat as an accessibility feature, not just a convenience. It is the difference between Deaf and HoH players being able to fully participate in co-op play or being excluded from it entirely.
Thank you for building a great game — I hope to see it become one that everyone can enjoy together.
