Description
After ~45 hours of playtime on my desktop PC, I installed Windrose on my gaming laptop while traveling for work. The Steam Cloud sync appears to have failed silently, and the game now freezes indefinitely on the "Loading" start screen and never launches.
Steps to reproduce:
- Have an existing save with significant progress on a desktop PC (Steam Cloud sync enabled)
- Install Windrose fresh on a second PC (laptop)
- Launch the game β Steam Cloud sync appears to run but fails
- Game gets stuck on the "Loading" screen indefinitely
What I've tried:
- Disabled Steam Cloud sync β game still freezes at loading
- Deleted
C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfilesβ game loads, but only allows creating a new character (save is gone) - Manually copied the
SaveProfilesfolder from desktop to laptop via TeamViewer β game still freezes at loading screen
Current status:
I can only get past the loading screen if the SaveProfiles folder is completely absent, but my progress is then inaccessible. My existing save appears to be incompatible or unreadable on the laptop after the failed sync.
Concern:
I'm worried about permanently losing my character and ~45 hours of progress, including our pirate town.
First off β huge congratulations to the dev team, this is a genuinely fantastic game and I'm really excited for its future. I just really hope this save can be recovered! Happy to provide logs, save files, or any additional info that might help. π
