#60 Hours of gameplay, stuck at loading screen before even seeing main menu.

I have over 60 hours of gameplay so far in Windrose and last night I got off for a bit for something. However, when trying to launch the game now it just sits at the Loading screen and won't completely load. I ran the troubleshooting that was mentioned on the website about the R5 files and such, but that did not work.

Just to keep make this easy, this is all the troubleshooting I've tried:

-Uninstalled & reinstalled the game.
-Verified the integrity of the game files.
-Created a backup of the R5 folder(put one on the desktop, and renamed the one in the file to R5.old) and launched the game. This DID launch the game; however, lost my character so I deleted the new R5 and put back my R5 folder.
-Followed the steps on the website on how to delete saves & how to restore backup from game client.

None of these worked so I am at a complete loss on how to fix this. Anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to start all the way over.

Findings so far regarding issue:
-Can load into world if I delete my lvl13 character(I suppose this has corrupted files in causing my game to not fully load) and create a newly fresh character; would rather not do this so I don't lose 40+ hours of character progression.
-Shared my files with a friend, he is also not able to fully load into the game unless he deletes all of the character files.

Thanks for the report. Its very unlikely we'll be able to restore your character, but we'll see what we can do.
Please, provide your save and logs

C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\Logs
C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles

Even if I can get to an early save, I would be okay with that. I'm fine if I have to lose a few hours of progression instead of 40+.

Have you tried restoring from your earliest backup folder?

#

You have several backups from 19th, 20th and yesterday.

The last time I played was the 20th. I got off around 10ish cst.. how do I tell which file in the backups is that date?

It starts with the date like 20260419

#
  1. Go to your C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\ (id numbers)\
  2. Remove existing RocksDB folder
  3. Put in RocksDB from attached archive

Your old character should be working after this.

Yeah, you better keep steam cloud off for Windrose for now, unless you really really need it for something. Your local save is updated constantly during the gameplay and backups are created locally as well.

Glad it got solved!
