#points when rendering water and extreme lagging on rtx 3060

Hello! I'm not the only one having problems with water rendering, especially shadows. The problem is, they're covered in jagged, sharp dots. I found out that this can be fixed in Invidia settings with DLSS presets K through M (the latter actually eats up 15-20 fps when used and is needed for extremely powerful PCs). The question arises: why can't we use a more optimized and beautiful water rendering technique, like in Sea of Thieves, especially since it puts less load on the CPU?

BUG REPORTING GUIDE

Please share your game logs, game saves, crash dumps, and DxDiag. These are essential for diagnosing and fixing bugs.

HOW TO FIND LOGS

Game logs are located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\Logs

Server logs are located here:
R5\Builds\WindowsServer\R5\Saved\Logs

To get there, open Steam, find Windrose in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files. From there, archive the files in the Logs folder and share them with us.

Please name your logs in a way that describes the problem, for example: Crashedwhile_fighting_Dodo.log

HOW TO FIND SAVES

Your saves are located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles
Please close the game before archiving your saves!

If you are playing on a dedicated server:
• Stop both the client and the dedicated server.
• Find and archive your server logs and world save.

Dedicated server logs are located here:
R5\Saved\Logs

Dedicated server saves are located here:

HOW TO FIND CRASH DUMPS

If crashes are involved, please share crash dumps:

Game client dumps (if play offline)
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Local\R5\Saved\Crashes
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Local\R5\.sentry-native

Server dumps (if you self-host from game client)
SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Windrose\R5\Builds\WindowsServer\R5\.sentry-native

HOW TO FIND DXDIAG

Please also include your DxDiag report. This is your PC specifications in .txt format:

• Press Win + R.
• Type dxdiag and press Enter.
• When the tool opens, click Save All Information.
• Save the .txt file and attach it to your report.

upper file- is my latest log. i can send a previous ones if needed

lyric compass
#

can you also send a screenshot of what yo udo not like in the water and what you belive to be a bug?

ashen spire
#

yep sure

#

just wait couple of minutes

#

just for sure last screenshots- is my graphic settings

#

and FPS bar also shows

#

i dont apply DLAA because my frames are burns out by 15-20 FPS

#

and this is with Nvidia DLSS preset K

ashen spire
#

on RTX 3060

lyric compass
#

сould be a combination of various settings, can you try clicking on auto detect the settings and see if it makes any better?

ashen spire
#

no, it doesnt

#

because when i plays on the very first time, all my settings be middle level

#

and this sharpening appears too

#

and one person told me to enable preset K on Nvidia graphics to slightly disable this sharp dots, but incompletely

#

preset M disable all of this dots, but it is best for RTX 4080 Ti or better, not for my RTX 3060

#

because it goes too laggy even on beach

#

so i told that might be better if water be like in sea of thieves: more like jelly, but lesser laggy and lesser eats GPU or something else

#

and without this dots

32 hrs into the game. Lots of fun lots of grinding. Went to log in after a long day at work. Game loads up. And boom character creation screen. My lvl 9 character is gone. All that hard work. Just made the 3rd boat and rigged it out. Whole world is gone too. Can still play my world on my paid server. But can't use anything. Map is unexplored like I'm starting over. Has anyone ran into this and been able to recover. Steam was the cause i feel but they were no help at all

just look at this water

#

and I think that this problem can be solved by switching the shadow engine inside your game engine to the Unreal Engine 4 method

#

but it depends on you, on the development team

That's not a shadow, but a reflection.

mobs also leave a rippling trail of particles when moving

something is deffinately not right, but it's difficult to pin point what this is happening for you sir. we are looking into this but don't have any ideas yet

Did the user try FSR/TSR at native yet ?

at native screen res (i.e. as AA pass and no upscaling) ?

At this point, I've tried absolutely ALL the Nvidia settings that could help me get rid of the artifacts (from upscaling to image scaling), and only the M preset in super resolution in combination with DLAA somehow removes them, but the game is starting to lag and annoy me. I say this is a problem with the engine itself.

#

I'm telling you, it's not so much my PC as UE5 itself. Because even on Reddit you can find a ton of videos with similar problems to mine, including "ghosting" of moving objects, rippling water, and spotty shadow and shader bleeds.

#

I'll add: I got rid of the lags by simply reinstalling the Invidia drivers, BUT the image problems I described above didn't go away.

ashen spire
#

this on nvidia preset M on beach, and near jungle (look at water and at my melting FPS)

#

and thats why i told, that problem is UE5

#

I understand that you'll likely decline my offer, and I don't blame you for that, but why not move the game back to UE4, but prioritize maximum stability coupled with a beautiful image without those artifacts that are removed by third-party methods that cost FPS (why, for example, Sea of Thieves is built on UE4, and yet has a decent image without unwanted artifacts). P.S. I'm not saying that SoT is better than your project, and I understand that they are completely different games at their core, but I'm saying that UE4 produces no worse quality and is more stable.

I ma very sorry to hear that you are having issues sir. We have never used UE4 for Windrose and it is impossible to move back for us. UE5 features are essencial for the game to function. WE will investigate why wyou are heving these rendering artifacts, they shuld not be in the game, everything should be smooth and pretty
