So I played for a few days on my pc. No issues. Played a few hour on my laptop, no issues.

Then went back to my Desktop, load screen at game start, nothing would work.

Tried the Backup restoration as per instructions, still did not work.

What did work, was deleting the additional Character that I created on my laptop, leaving the original one I created on my Desktop. ( I did this by going into the Charaters Folder, and deleting the folder)

Game loaded normally, and I was able log back into the game (yes lost some progress, but at least not a whole new start)

I also disabled Steam Cloud Saves, I guess I cannot play on my Laptop for now…

We are still working on the saves & steam cloud issue, the backup feature was just one step of it.

thank you for bringing me here evil,
when you say the additional character, do you mean that on the same steam id, you have one character on your pc, and two on your laptop, one being your original character?

Yeah, when I played on my laptop (2nd computer), I started a new Character (Farming alt) and played with that instead of my Main Character.

That 2nd Character that was started on my laptop seems to have corrupted the save file on the Main Computer when i went back to it.

So I would just delete or move the 2nd character from the Players Folder (if any)

Make sure to keep a copy in case you delete/remove the wrong one

Im my case, the E9 was my Original (Main Toon)

and the 56 was the New Toon I made on the laptop (Farming Alt)

I removed the 56 folder completely, and game started just fine

Message update:

This fix seemed to work for the steam deck also. I was able to use my PC and identify which file was the main toon and delete all other toons. I reenabled cloud save if it transferred the single file folder to the steamdeck and the game loaded with no issues.

Following because I cannot even get the game to the first menu screen after installing on my laptop. I went through everything on the Steam thread: deleted files, removed all and demo too, reinstalled a few times, verified files, turned off Cloud Sync, increased virtual memory to 50GB, deleted all mention of Windrose in files/local/steam etc. I checked my laptop name so is just English letters...all of it...but still cannot even load in to select a character, or create a new one as I think I will need to in the end! Such a shame as I love the game and was really enjoying on my PC. (Sadly away for a week or more so cannot check my PC - but I believe I should be able to at least load the game into a menu before it has issues? lol)

I don't have a steamdeck, so I cannot help you there. Just sharing what worked for me!

I think this might work for thr steamdeck but im at work and will forget if I dont remind myself about it 🙂

OK, got the game working on my laptop, I had to create a whole new windows user profile and start again! but the game loads and who knows, maybe my local copy back on my PC works
