My game either would crash to desktop or freeze my pc every time I go and try to continue my saved solo/offline "adventure"
This also happens if I create a new character and new world, it crashes during the loading screen before you get to shore
Reinstalled the game in hopes that it'll get fixed. Started the game, got stuck on a loading screen and then (photo)

Deleting R5 folder fixes what's referenced on the photo. But the issue with the game crashing persist

When you encounter such symptoms in 95% of cases there is an Issue with your saves. We do see an issues that sometimes saves could get corrupted an it is more common when you play on several devices and use Steam Cloud to sync your saves between different machines. We do not know why this happens and currently investigating this. For now we recommend to disable Cloud Saves for Windrose while playing the game.

If your last session happened before Sunday the 19th and you now cannot load into the game, it is most likely that your save is corrupted and cannot be restored. But if you delete your save folder it should fix it for you.

HOW TO DELETE SAVES

Disable Steam Cloud saves.

Go to:

  • C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\

  • Delete SaveProfiles folder

On Sunday, April 19th we have released an update that backups your saves automatically every time the game or the server launches, so if you have played a session after Sunday 19th's update you have a save back up.

HOW TO RESTORE BACKUP FOR THE GAME CLIENT

Disable Steam Cloud saves.

Go to:

  • C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles%your_Steam_ID%_Backups

  • Select the latest backup (or any preferred one). Backups are named by date and time.

  • Copy all contents from this folder (it should contain one folder + AccountDescription.json).

  • Navigate to: C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles{your_Steam_ID}\RocksDB

  • Paste the copied files there (replace existing files if prompted).

I have already disabled cloud saves. I also created a new world and character but it still crashes

#

I'm also running AMD 26.1.1 which was suggested

#

I have done what was suggested above. Deleted SaveProfiles folder & and started over. Went through the intro once more but it still crashed to desktop

possible issues:

Something just went wrong within your graphics card \ cpu \ ram setup

It is quite common that something could go wrong just because your machine worked without rebooting for a long time. Turning it off and on again sometimes can do magic… no one in the world know why... but before trying other things, try doing the basics:

Reboot your PC
Shut down Steam and relog
Update your drivers
Update windows
Check the game's file integrity

AMD video card issues
AMD Radeon cards are currently known to have issues with the newest AMD Adrenaline Driver (26.3.1) and its creating much UE5 Crashes. Some players reported that previous Stable Version does much better:AMD Adrenalin 26.1.1 WHQL. We are also investigating if there is something we can do to run better on AMD cards.
RAM issue
Try shutting down other apps while playing the game
Increase the size of your page file -- https://playwindrose.com/faq/#faq-pagefile
If you have less than 16 Gb of ram it is very unlikely that you will be able to playe the game as it is below our min spec
If you have 16 Gb, you shuld be able to play, but some players still encounter issues. Possible solutions:

Other random crashes:
Look if your GPS or CPU is overheating. While playing the game open task manager (CTRL + ALT + DEL) and see Performance tab. Look if your GPU or CPU temperatures are not normal. If you see tempratures too high, try reducing the graphic level, and setting max fps limit to 60.
If temperatures are normal, still try to limit max FPS, disable framegen, disable DLSS. see if it still crashes.
