Hi! Seems to be save files issue
STEAM SAVE CLOUD
We discovered an issue where, in rare cases, player save files may become corrupted. This happens more frequently when playing across multiple machines while using Steam Cloud synchronization.
We are still investigating the root cause. In the meantime, to mitigate the risk, we’ve added an automatic save backup system. Each time you launch the game, a backup of your save will be created. The system stores up to 30 backups, after which older ones are overwritten.
Instructions on how to restore your save in case of corruption are provided below.
We still recommend avoiding the use of cloud saves if possible while we continue investigating the issue.
HOW IT WORKS
• An automatic save backup is created on game launch (both for client and dedicated server).
• The maximum number of backup files is limited to 30.
• Backups are stored in the folder:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\{steamid}_Backups
• When the file limit is exceeded, older backups are deleted (the 31st backup replaces the oldest one).
HOW TO RESTORE BACKUP
• Go to:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\%your_Steam_ID%_Backups
• Select the latest backup (or any preferred one). Backups are named by date and time.
• Copy all contents from this folder (it should contain one folder + AccountDescription.json).
• Navigate to:
C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\{your_Steam_ID}\RocksDB
• Paste the copied files there (replace existing files if prompted).
For a dedicated server, the process is the same as for a local game. The difference is that save files are located inside the server’s installation folder.
• Go to:
\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\Default_Backups\
• Find the relevant backup folder. Backups are named by date and time.
• Copy the required files (folder + AccountDescription.json) from the chosen backup folder.
• Paste them into the corresponding RocksDB folder of the active save, replacing files if needed.
thing is i dont even have a save file as i cant load into an online game at all whether
i host it or my friend
and i have already turned off cloud saves
Have you played before? or first time launching?
Possible issues:
Something just went wrong within network set up
It is quite common that something could go wrong just because your machine or your router worked without rebooting for a long time. Turning it off and on again sometimes can do magic… no one in the world know why... but before trying other things, try doing the basics:
Reboot your PC
Shut down Steam and relog
Reboot your router
Check the game's file integrity
Block by your ISP
We are seeing that quite a few ISPs are blocking access to our backend service that help player to connect. We do not understand why this happens yet, but we are trying to reach out to them and try t address this. A few has already replied and unblocked us allowing players to play normally, however this process could take time.
If your ISP has any sort of app or a website where you can turn off additional security settings - try doing this, it could help!
If you know a place where your ISP shows a list of blocked sites - try looking for something that has windrose.support in it - this is us! Please unblock!
Try connecting via different connection services (even if you are from NA, if you can not connect with your friends, try selecting Asia or CIS and see if it works for you)
We cannot recommend to install any third party software, but quite a few people reported that using apps like https://one.one.one.one/ or similar to this one could help to bypass this block until it is lifted by ISPs
You network settings priorities IPv6 over IPv4
The game is currently architected to use IPv4, so if your IPv6 priority is much higher there could be connection issues. Disabling IPv6, or increasing IPv4 priority could sole that issue.
Install the free app that makes your phone’s Internet more fast, private, and reliable.

You are playing from the same network
We currently have an issue with PC's connecting to each other from the same network could not connect ot each other via invite code. We are working on finding a solution to allow regular connection for this setup. However we have recently released an update that allows connection via IP. Connecting via direct IP should allow playing from the same network without any issues.
Please note: If you want other players to connect to you via direct IP, you need to set up your router accordingly.
first time launching
i have tried all of these and it still wont work
You still have a savefile though
Very likely
Please open up Win+r -> %localappdata%\R5\Saved\
Do you see SaveProfiles folder there
?
yes i do
Delete it and then try to launch
Having same issue going back and forth from offline to server
doesnt seem like it did anything still just stuck on a loading screen
%localappdata%\R5\Saved\Logs - please give me the most recent log then
do you want me to like copy paste all of it?
.zip whole folder, give me one most recent one, whatever works
Hm, still looks like a corrupted save tbh.
Just to make sure lets do following.
- make sure your cloud save is turned OFF
- after that, go and delete whole %localappdata%\R5\Saved\ folder
- try to launch the game
alright ill try
@jagged river still just stuck in a loading screen after the little tutorial part
Wait, I got it all wrong
If you are stuck in loading screen on connection
Then it's connectivity issue
Please check options from our FAQ - https://playwindrose.com/faq/
If you've tried Firewall/Antivirus disable/IPv6/DNS/port forwarding and nothing helps - try using cloudflare warp https://one.one.one.one/, a lot of players reported it helped them, so you may try that out.
Some ISP like Bezeq International Ltd, Ziggo, telnet, Xfinity, Spectrum, and others are blocking our servers, so disabling advanced security feaures provided by them might be good idea as well. (Or contacting ISP support to whitelist windrose.support domains)
Also firewalla routers sometimes report windrose.support as a malicious site, adding a whitelist rule for the windrose.support domain helps.
Ok it worked i just had to turn on secure boot in BIOS and change my dns settings
thanks for the help
Hi , i am having the same issue , i have 2 different computers at 2 differents location and i wanted to play at the so said 2nd location and the game just launch and get stuck on the loading screen , i tryed like 10 different things already but i cant make it work , any input/help would be greatly appreciated
have you tried changing your dns? might be because youre on a different connection
do i need to turn these on ?
like both or just IPv4 ?
turn on just IPv4
like that ?
nop same thing
no idea what to do anymore , i tryed so many different things already lol
everything possible basicaly Lol
looks more like a could error between them and steam or something
try turn on secure boot in BIOS it worked for me
cause i was able to get the menu when i deleted the savefiles folder in r5 with cloud sync turned off
im not sure then im not a dev soooo im not the best person to ask just make a post and they will help you
@jagged river can you advise when you have a minute to take a look at this pretty please
so i tried this and i play on a dedicated server on nitrado but the web browser file browser doesn’t let me download the default back up folder. it doesn’t give me a download option
man they gotta fix this cloud sync im having to remake a 3rd time.
I can't find this file C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles%your_Steam_ID%_Backups
you need to use an FTP client to download things from there (don't use Filezilla it is heard to corrupt files)
Still in loading screen I can't find my saves for this game im on laptop
press WIN + R
insert this:
%localappdata%\R5\Saved\
press enter
Wait I got the e wrong my bad
I see saveprofiles do I delete that
Got it thank you so much man I appreciate it
gla it helped!
Iv been trying everything nothing worked you say one thing and it works 💪
create a separate thread please
then what do i use im not that great with this kind of stuff. i tried using a back up file on local but that didn’t helps me on a dedicated server.
wouldn’t be a big deal if they added admin commands in the game. could just force xp to your character and spawn what you need to get back to your progression like ark does
and what do i do when none of my back up files work lol
try using Cyberduck (free on WIndows Store) alot of players sid it worked fine for them
ald also try to reach out to Nitrado support, they should be able to help you
i feel like it has nothing to do with my server tho it’s my player i keep losing and that file getting corrupt i’ve made 3 players now but my server still has my base and all
try disabling steam cloud saves, it could be the issue
especially if you are playing from differnt devices
i just had a friend zip a back up file of his and send it to me then customized the character and seems to work fine.
just amke sure you disable the steam cloud saves for now, untill we understand why this corruption could happen
will do
