When I click play in steam the game gets stuck in the loading screen for ~20 minutes and eventually loads to menu with no options but to click quit. I tried playing the game on two different computers at different times, which is when this issue began. I tried disabling steam cloud, backing up my "Saved" folder, and deleting the original R5 folder under C:\Users"user_name"\AppData\Local\R5\Saved. This allowed me to boot back into the game, however, my original character and progress were all gone. When I attempt to add my original "Saved" folder into the R5 path, this is when the game gets stuck on the loading screen for ~20 minutes and then loads into the main menu with nothing but the "quit" button available (screenshot attached). I have attached the log file as well to review what is going on while the game is stuck on the loading screen. I want to use my original character and continue with my original progress, and I do have the "Saved" folder backed up.

When you encountering such symptoms in 95% of cases there is an Issue with your saves. We do see an issues that sometimes saves could get corrupted an it is more common when you play on several devices and use Steam Cloud to sync your saves between different machines. We do not know why this happens and currently investigating this. For now we recommend to disable Cloud Saves for Windrose while playing the game.

If your last session happened before Sunday the 19th and you now cannot load into the game, it is most likely that your save is corrupted and cannot be restored. But if you delete your save folder it should fix it for you.

HOW TO DELETE SAVES
Disable Steam Cloud saves.

Go to:

  • C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\
  • Delete SaveProfiles folder

On Sunday, April 19th we have released an update that backups your saves automatically every time the game or the server launches, so if you have played a session after Sunday 19th's update you have a save back up.

HOW TO RESTORE BACKUP FOR THE GAME CLIENT
Disable Steam Cloud saves.

Go to:

  • C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles%your_Steam_ID%_Backups
  • Select the latest backup (or any preferred one). Backups are named by date and time.
  • Copy all contents from this folder (it should contain one folder + AccountDescription.json).
  • Navigate to: C:\Users%username%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles{your_Steam_ID}\RocksDB
  • Paste the copied files there (replace existing files if prompted).
