Moving your backpack from the assigned backpack slot to a inventory slot that was provided by the backpack itself (not the default slots) erases the backpack item from the game.

Yes, i tested it on land now and it indeed drops to the ground. Since my house is on top of the sea it could have ended in the water. So maybe not really a bug, sorry

Sometimes dropped objects fly unexpecedly far, you can also search the corners of your room - it might be there.
