#Mods to work for Nitrado servers?
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Thank you! Time to switch to another provider.
Won't matter.... No 3rd party provider allows unlisted mods that don't come directly from the steam platform....
People have been saying that there are providers out there that allow the mods
I have tried gportal, nitrado, 4net and even Xtreme, none of them allow the use of unlisted mods
Those who claim they are using mods, and who also can't show proof of those mods being used, are straight up lying
Currently the only way to use mods is to purchase a private data host, and then program the server on your own
Or simply host it directly from your own computer
Basically, without a GOOD computer or a VPS server, it's not possible at the moment to host an online server with mods, if someone says they are using mods on a server, ask for a screenshot of their User Interface for the server hosting the mods, see how fast they come up with an excuse for why they can't show you
We let users run UE4SS just fine? 👀
Happy to provide proof ha
if any are troublesome to work, happy to test with a example mod
Yeah, bisect uses VPS.... Which I literally said is about the only way to use mods outside of hosting a server using your own PC... Nitrado, gportal, 4net, extreme and all those others do not use virtual private servers....
Also, goes without saying.... Installing unofficial mods on a VPS is a one way ticket to corrupted saves town.... People who have never used a VPS should NEVER make that their first choice when hosting a game, else they end up installing a mod/patch that has bad coding which then crashes their server and potentially corrupts their entire save file..... This is why the other major server hosts only allow the use of trusted mods, but even then, there is a small risk, that you download a mod on steam to your computer that is corrupted, the the risk is a lot smaller then what it would be when dealing with unofficial mods from say, nexus.... An example of the steam mod issues to point out, the recent virus issue that was part of like 8 different mods on steam for project zomboid
But that was cought, by the steam mod community, and was quickly removed... Nexus is not known for having a community that tests and reports mods unfortunately and on top of that, it's famous for allowing people to upload mods that the uploaders do not have authorization to upload, because they took someone else's mods and uploaded them claiming them as their own ... With that being pointed out, bisect stated in their policy that you can not use any mods, period, on your server, without prior authorization from the mod maker themselves.... Meaning, just because it's uploaded on the Internet, does not mean you have the authorization to use said mod, that's another issue that most people will ignore, unfortunately.... Steams modding platform, allows for faster removal of unauthorized mods, nexus does not ..... Point of this is, devs need to get an official mods list for steam to allow direct download and modification through steams services.... But, that's just my own opinion
Hello! My name's Alexis from Nitrado support.
As of currently, Mods are not officially supported by the game. https://playwindrose.com/faq/#faq-modding
That said our team at Nitrado is looking into modding options.
Would be easier if we could get the dev team to get steam to give the game a dedicated mod page like what zomboid has.... I know it was easy installing mods for my zomboid server on nitrado
We don't use VPS and allow mods no problem, just need to upload it into R5/Content/Paks/~mods
Only thing is the players also need to copy it into their local game installation folder:
[Steam Library]\steamapps\common\Windrose\R5\Content\Paks~mods\
The issue comes with the number of updates at the moment, if the mod becomes out of date it will stop the server launching
Which leads to people complaining about the "server" no working lol
Easy fix though, remove the mod file until the mod is updated, this is why the link Alexis shared states "If you are using mods or third-party software, you must clearly state this when reporting a bug."
Best hosts in the world can't help you if you insist on running and outdated Mod 😅
XD
We allow mods to be added pak & UE4ss,
Currently running them on my own server 🙂
yeah, you use VPS....
We don’t use VPSs? 🤔
This is a design choice by the hosts you’ve tried not a machine requirement 😅
There’s of course benefits to using a system like Steam Workshop, but the odds this relies on UE4SS+Paks for the foreseeable future is pretty likely 👀 Palworld has a workshop system and it still uses UE4!
just reading the rest xD
Just gotta wait and see really, I suspect workshop support is a fair abit down the line if its been thought about.
True that
Honestly if they would just allow us access to the .pak file location you could add mods yourself but as of right now Nitrado has those file locations hidden.
Like i said... Bisect uses VPS....
G-portal and hosthavoc let you manually add as well
I just chose nitrado because I have my ark cluster with them
I had gportal before switching back to nitrado, gportal does not do traditional mod support
If they allow access to the file locations thats all you need of course if stuff goes wrong with the server there is nothing they can do
Yeah we offer VPSs; but thats not what our Game Servers run on ha if you order a Windrose server for example, it isnt a VPS you get setup on
What mods were you having issues w/? Happy to test 🤔
gportal does intigrated mod support through steam files, the other support they have, requires EVERYONE who joins your server to manually download the mods YOU have, meaning, unless you tell them "Hey, we got this mod and these mods, you need them!" then they cant connect to the server
Well the servers are mainly private right now since everything is shared so having the people you play with manually add the pak files isn't super hard
I have had people that don't have a clue about anything game related besides starting it and playing it do it
But long story short all im saying was nitrado should allow access to the file locations and put if you add mods and server goes array that they can't support those issues
Does Nitrado hide the pak dir or? 👀
im largely just curious ha
so, $37 for an 8 slot server with 12gb ram......... when im paying $17 for a 10 man server and 16gb ram..... with the only current downside, lacking official mod support 😕
it currently only gives you access to 2 json files
even the usergame ini folder is hidden
anywho... im going to sleep now because meh....
Fixin this one internally already 👀
Edit: price cut coming soon...
sorry forgot to click no ping on reply
Ahhhh that'll do er, hopefully they unlock access ✅
I have my own server on 4netplayers and we have it modded
Screenshot the user interface, because I tried 4net and it would not accept mods, the server simply kept crashing on startup every time someone smacked a rock
there isnt anything in user interface, i just connected via ftp via Filezilla and put them in there
the only issue is that it get purged every server restart, so i have to manually stop server, add them then start instead of using restart option
....
but well, it works so
Are you sure you’re checking the right place for where to put the mods?
I mean if I screenshot our UI all you’re gunna see is the UE4SS toggle
have not tried using the servers you use, I can only really speak for the servers I have personally tried to use, which have failed... in the long run i simply went back to using nitrado cause its something i am familiar with.... ill just wait for the devs to impliment a mod function on steam i guess... unless I end up going back to the game scum, most of the people who we started our server with are beginning to lose interest in the game, as there is nothing else left to do 😕 no more quests, not even random repeatable ones, which I was hoping owuld have been a thing.... like sailing cargo to and from different ports 😕
I assume u add mods using some ftp app aswell and connecting with provided passes?
All our customers have full sftp access to their files. It’s their server and their game to do with as they please.
We put the tools in place that’s all.
Only issue at the moment is you also need the mod downloaded onto your pc files (steam files)
so does Bisect allow uploading .pak mods via ftp?
sorry I'm trying to find which hosts do via this thread and I couldn't exactly tell from what you said
Sure do!
We dont hide any files in the install ha
