Hi everyone, I’m experiencing persistent crashes with the game and could use some help.

My Specs:

CPU: i9-9900K
GPU: RTX 2070 SUPER
RAM: 32GB

What I’ve Tried:

Full Windows format
Updated and downgraded GPU drivers
Updated BIOS
Disabled XMP
Installed all necessary runtimes (Visual C++, DirectX)
Verified game files

Issue Description:

When exploring on land, the game runs for about 30 minutes to 1 hour before crashing.
When I’m on a ship and start a fight, it crashes more frequently, around 10-20 minutes in.
The crash logs indicate a "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG" error, suggesting a GPU fault.

Has anyone else encountered similar issues or found a solution? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Is your framerate capped?

Yeah, see if it helps, might strain GPU a bit too much

I'm getting same crash error but when I'm attempting to start the game. I don't know if I should create a new issue for it. I played a capped 60 fps for a few hours yesterday.

Give me the most fresh R5 log please (or afew, containing crashes) and I'll pass it to our render wizards tomorrow

Same error here! Playing Solo...
It happens very often after one or 2 ship battles...
If I play Windowed, this message show... If I play Full Screen, all PC freezes and no message show, but same mistake

any update? @neon slate

Not yet. Maybe @vapid belfry can have a look as well

@candid willow If you can, could you also grab this file if it exists?
C:/Users/Administrator/AppData/Local/R5/Saved/Logs/D3D12.0.2026.04.20-01.11.06.nv-gpudmp
Since the crash looks GPU/D3D12-related, that dump may be much more useful than the generic log alone.

# candid willow this one?

this a decode part of the reall gpudump, but thanks :p
for the Dev, maybe the real gpudump can help u case.

like here :
C:/Users/cgman/AppData/Local/R5/Saved/Logs/D3D12.0.2026.04.16-14.57.35.nv-gpudmp :p

ho ok.
but you crash is a timedout driver, can you try to downgrade you nvidia driver ? seems like a recent one you have installed :p
And no overclock/undervolt on you GPU ?

candid willow
#

i have downgrade it to 591.86 and same crash

#

yh no overclock and undervolt

delicate falcon
#

yep, really weird, so it's a invalid memory access > timedout > crash... and yep, a Dev need to read u log asap :p

#

but with you log, the last guess it's the upscaler, check if u have the DLSS/FSR ON ? 😉

Hi everyone, I managed to fix this problem (my video card is Nvidia). I downloaded an older driver version, like 591… and it solved the problem completely.

candid willow
edgy pelican
#

freezing or crashing?

#

Funny, I just changed the driver and it solved it 100%.

delicate falcon
candid willow
#

It happens more often during ship combat/on water.

edgy pelican
#

lol

#

30 minutes?

#

or takes a long time to crash?

candid willow
#

It’s random. Sometimes it crashes after 5 minutes, sometimes after 2 minutes. Just now, I logged in and hopped on the ship, and it crashed within 1 minute. When I logged in again, it took about 10 minutes to crash.

edgy pelican
#

Omg

candid willow
#

The crash behavior is weird. Like I mentioned before, it happens more often when I’m on the water. But when I’m on land, farming wood, copper, or iron, I can play for 1-2 hours with no crashes.

edgy pelican
#

And have you already tried everything? Verified the integrity of the files, disabled DLSS and FG?

Yes

where i can find this

Try switching the game to windowed mode.

What is your video card?

#

It's funny, isn't it?! Our computers run Crimson Desert on ultra settings, with RTX, and this game crashes like crazy.

candid willow
#

Lmao you just read my mind 😄 I was about to say the same thing I played Crimson Desert with no issues, but this game keeps crashing.

#

I just want to get on my ship and hear my crew sing. Is that too much to ask for 💔

#

Anyway, thank you and Serda for trying to help me. I really appreciate it!

delicate falcon

the last thing before a Dev come back here, is re install u driver with DDU, and try to play with all setting to low 👀

Hello @candid willow ,

Sorry you are having this issue. SO far we can not understand why the game is not runnign corectly for you, It shuld be good and smooth.

can you see if this could wokr for you?

dxdiag.exe -> save all information -> open the resulting .txt
Look for MPO MaxPlanes, it should be > 1
MPO Caps should be anything other than Not Supported
If those conditions are met, this fix is worth trying

regedit.exe
go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
make sure GraphicsDrivers is selected
right click on right window area, Create -> DWORD (32 bits) -> Set name to DisableOverlays
double-click it, set Value to 1, Hexadecimal
reboot

I was getting this error and I fixed it on AMD by rolling back drivers (and uninstalling Adrenaline, but doesn't matter for you). At the same time I noticed it is also sold on Epic, so I downloaded that launcher "just in case" it might also downloaded some other utility files I needed. I don't know if it was one or both of them together. I also recommend going to AI and asking questions because it's pulling from a ton of sites where it's being discussed.

Thanks! When you have time, can you try running the game with -d3ddebug -dred launch options (Steam -> Right click on Windrose -> Properties -> Launch options -> add -d3ddebug -dred) and send the logs after the game crashes?
This does look like some shader hung the GPU, but unfortunately I can't narrow it down using only the log data. -d3ddebug -dred may help narrow it down.

# vapid belfry Thanks! When you have time, can you try running the game with -d3ddebug -dred la...

Hey, quick update! After adding the code you suggested to the launch options, I was expecting the game to crash like usual so I could send you the logs. Normally, it crashes within 5-10 minutes when I'm driving the ship. But this time, it didn't crash at all. I played for about an hour and a half across two sessions with no crashes. The only difference I noticed is that my FPS dropped from 60 to around 20-30. I have no idea why it's not crashing anymore since I didn't change anything else besides that code. It's too early to say the problem is gone for good, but this is the longest I've gone without a crash. I haven't tested it for a longer period yet because I've been busy lately and couldn't play more. I'll keep testing and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help!

vapid belfry
#

Hi! That's kinda surprising, but may suggest it is something to do with CPU code running too fast. These startup options make renderer do a lot of error checks which usually hits FPS really hard. Can you please send your logs just in case?

candid willow
#

@vapid belfry
This is so weird, man. I tested it multiple times with the launch option, the game doesn’t crash at all, but without it, it crashes just like before. Also, with the launch option, my FPS drops a lot, down to around 20-30, sometimes even 10. Just wanted to keep you updated on this strange behavior.
