Having the same Error... Playing Solo...
It happens very often after one or 2 ship battles...
If I play Windowed, this message show... If I play Full Screen, all PC freezes and no message show,but same mistake

I also have this same error just trying to load the game. Playing solo. Had no issue until the updates were pushed about 2am CST. When I've tried the tips, it made my whole PC freeze. I played for 9 hours before the patch was pushed.

It helped! Still having some crashings ocasionally, but now a Windows Bluescreen...
Error: "Critical Process Died 0xEF"
So this made some progress! Thanks!!

In previous cases with Error: "Critical Process Died 0xEF" the issue was related to players PC (like improper drivers, or missing/corrupted system files) if that helps.

Yeah! I ran a ScanDisk and other healthchecks and it indeed fixed some "steamapps" errors!
But my PC has some overclocks in CPU and GPU... and I'm in "canary" windows insider.... Aaaaand I'm Using a GTX1080, bellow the 1080TI minimum req... so maybe the problem is with my PC now....
After the diskcheck, I had no more crashs so far! So its good!
The GTX1080 runs smooth at 55fps, full HD with 60% upscale too!!

sorry didn't see the answer
I'm playing solo
i add this error 3 or 4 time (last few seconds ago) each time when i try to store stuff in a ballot
it's not coinsistent (as not each time i put stuff in storage nor afeter the same amount of play time few hours against few minutes)
I don't know if i can find some log somewhere if that can help
