Thanks for the report! Your title says game crashes to desktop, your message says you were kicked to main menu. Which is it?

Its not the same. Make your own bug report if you have issues.

Initially, I was just being kicked back to the Main Menu, which used to happen frequently and I could usually fix it by just retrying the connection.

However, after the latest update, the 'kick to menu' happened again, so I decided to verify the game files. Since doing that, the problem has escalated—now the game crashes to desktop entirely immediately after joining the server, instead of just kicking me to the menu."

restart the steam to make sure your Dedicated server is also fully updated.
Are you able to join any other server or host a world from your game?
