#Important Update on "Restart Loops" on Nitrado-hosted servers

Hello friends NitraDuck_Salute

I am writing to update you on the situation regarding "restart loops" for Windrose servers hosted on Nitrado.

Our team has been working through the night to help users affected by the issue. For context, the issue affects only a small fraction of our Windrose servers, estimated at about 1.3%. But with the many, many thousands of Windrose servers we are hosting by now, and with the manual effort required in each fix, we have built up a backlog of requests that still require resolution.

We have therefore pivoted our approach from manual resolution on a case-by-case basis to automatically detecting and repairing servers that are in this state. That means that our manual resolution speed has slowed down for the moment, in favor of trying to resolve the situation at scale before Sunday prime time.

We believe that the current initiative will be able to resolve 80-90% of cases currently stuck in a restart loop, and will free up resources in our customer support team to investigate the remaining 10-20% of affected servers in more detail.

If your server is currently in a restart loop, there is nothing else you will need to do for now, just wait. In fact, we recommend that you don't try to manually fix the issue yourself unless explicitly instructed by our support agents. We will be posting an update in this thread once the automatic fix strategy has been applied and validated.

That also means that, until that time has come, we will be a little less active on here while we focus on resolving the issue at its root.

Lastly, I want to highlight that we take the current situation very seriously. 1.3% might not sound like much, but is still not a number we intend to ignore. We will not rest until every single one of you can enjoy their time on the high seas.

Update

We have successfully implemented and validated a fix for the vast majority of "hanging restart" cases. It is currently rolling out globally.

Please note that, if you were affected, the first restart after we have deployed the fix may still take a significant amount of time. The same is likely to occur on the first restart after you have restored a backup. We highly recommend to not interrupt that long startup process, even if it might seem that it is stuck.

In extreme cases, when the underlying save file has grown extremely large, this initial process may take more than an hour to finish.

If, starting from now, your server is briefly displayed as "running", but then enters "restarting" again, it is likely that your game server has crashed on startup due to a different cause. We recommend to review your newest R5.log for any indicators, and reach out to us so that we can assist you.

Please also note that, due to the backlog from the previous issue, responses from our support team might still be delayed. Please be assured that we are working as fast as we can to get every single one of you back on your servers.

Hi is there any fix soon regarding the heavy Rubber-banding while doing naval (and sometimes also ground-based) combat? We are using a NITRADO server and it seems to stutter a lot which makes the sea fights a bit annoying 🙁 This has nothing todo with the client, its a server / game thing.

#

In addition: This happens no matter how many players are connected (the stuttering is pretty much the same).

this seems to be a genernal issue with the server, not just nitrado, we are playing on a private server and have the same desync issues, mostly on the ship fights and general sailing

Hm, my server says up, but both me and my friends are unable to connect to it. Tried a restart, came back after a few minutes, but still the same issue.

Kept having issues with sailing lag/hanging, ditched Nitrado and went to HostHavoc and we haven't had any issues since. Also supports mods easily. Thanking all the pirate gods this game didn't get saddled with garbage exclusivity like Ark:SA did

Also, your service doesn't seem to let me load mods on the server, which is super frustrating, and trying to get help just gets your AI Chatbot on the website, which was of zero help and just kept repeating "Mods are not supported by Windrose" even though multiple other providers let you load them. Had them working in 5 minutes after switching to another server provider.

Dear developers, this is a cry from the heart.

Dear developers,

Could you explain to us, your community, why you abandoned PvP and multiplayer servers and chose to focus on PvE instead?

It has been a week since the game’s release. Player count is at its peak and breaking records — but how long will that last?

I spent 20 hours completing the Early Access content, 7 hours in the beta, and I’ve been with you since the CrossWind days. But now I sincerely don’t understand what I’m supposed to do in this game. Wait 2 years for another 20 hours of story content? That sounds bad.

You have a trump card in your hands — you’ve created one of the best PvP systems possible. Your original concept in CrossWind was built around developing PvP and large-scale multiplayer on massive servers, so what is stopping you from pushing into that space as well?

As a player, I want to express my honest opinion: the one thing that could make me stay in this game — a game I’ve truly come to love for its PvE — is the introduction of multiplayer servers and полноценное PvP between players: factions, teams and clans, duels, naval battles between crews, and similar features.

Please don’t miss this opportunity while the game is at peak player activity. If you do this, we will support you in everything, the player base will keep growing, and the game can remain relevant for a long time.

Why am I writing this now? Because I’ve noticed a worrying trend.

Many streamers, after finishing the game, have started calling it a “Boar Hunting Simulator.” They say WinRose has no future, that no one will wait 2 years for another 20 hours of story content, and that the player count will soon collapse.

I don’t want that to happen.

I see your effort, and I see the potential — that’s why I’m telling you this honestly while it’s not too late. You conquered the first summit. Conquer the second one too.

everyone still using Nitrado should swap to something like G-Portal really. Nitrado is just a scam. We had lags and rubberbanding. They share the resources too extreme. We have a well running server now without lags. You can copy over the stuff - its no big deal. Also 6 slot server is even cheaper then Nitrado.

Also you can use MODS on your server which is not possible with Nitrado...
