Iv only used one PC and play on Hosted world. Only the possible fix Fix: Your world save is stuck in a Steam Cloud conflict loop
This is the most common cause of the exact symptoms you described.

Step‑by‑step fix (do this exactly):

  1. Disable Steam Cloud for Windrose
    Steam Library → Right‑click Windrose → Properties

Turn OFF “Keep game saves in the Steam Cloud”.

  1. Delete the local corrupted profile
    Go to:

Code
C:\Users<YourWindowsUser>\AppData\Local\R5\Saved
Delete the folder:

Code
SaveProfiles
(Do NOT delete anything else.)

  1. Launch Windrose (Cloud still OFF)
The game should now boot straight to character creation instead of loading your world.

Just click through it (don’t worry—this is temporary).

  1. Exit the game normally
This forces Windrose to rebuild clean local save metadata.

  2. Turn Steam Cloud back ON
Steam will show a Conflict! popup.

Choose: Use Cloud Save version
(NOT the local version.)

This pulls your real character/world back down from the cloud.

  1. Launch the game again
    You should now:

Reach the main menu instantly

See your original character

Load into your hosted world normally I hop this helps Your Dev team find the root of this issue so it can be properly fixed with out all of this.

Thanks for the report! Can you explain a bit more - what is the issue?

You can't connect to a server? You can't launch the game and get to the main menu?

Hello, playing solo but tried the other fixes posted and none of them work so tried yours and half worked.

Issue:
Stuck on loading screen

Began today when taking items from a workbench. Went into a loading screen to never return.

Tried this fix and managed to get into character creation, but after step 5, it would get stuck again on a loading screen after launching the game.

So retried the fix, but this time, only deleted the Player folder.

Game loaded into character creation and allowed me to enter my previous world. Everything that my first character built was there, even the items in the workbench that I was taking when the game first went into a loading screen.

Quit the game, tried to place the old character folder in the Players file and gets stuck in the loading screen once more when launching the game. Remove the folder and works again. So it's something with the Player file.

The CURRENT and MANIFEST files have the same number.

I see. There is no proper fix right now, but it seems to be a problem with Steam cloud corrupting saves.
It can be fixed by disabling steam cloud and removing you "C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles" folder, but it will make you lose progress.

To try to save progress, we have only two solutions that aren't guaranteed, but helped in some cases.

Solution 1

  1. Close the game, turn off steam cloud saves in game setting on the games page in your steam library.
  2. Go to
C:\Users\YOUR USERNAME\AppData\Local\R5\Saved Make a backup of this folder just in case, then delete it.
  3. Launch the game - it should ask you to create the new character. Do it.
  4. Close the game and enable steam cloud saves back.
  5. When Steam finds a conflict in save files, choose the Steam Cloud version.

Soltion 2

  1. Disable steam cloud saves
  2. Go to %Localappdata%\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles(profile-id-numbers)\RocksDB\0.10.0\Accounts(account-id-numbers)\CURRENT
  3. Open with any text editor (notepad), it will contain text like MANIFEST-000005
  4. In same folder look for file called MANIFEST-XXXXXX
  5. If file name is not the same as from CURRENT step 3 - rename it to match step 3.

People report this solutions working for them, but we can't be sure they'll help you.

I don't think it will be possible to restore already corrupted saves. For now turning off cloud saves prevents further corruption, but the proper fix is still in the work

Steam Cloud version is broken it Works when the cloud save is off

@brittle walrus @civic zealot @gleaming mason How I Fixed the Issue its at the Bottom
Problem:
The game would get stuck on the loading screen for several minutes and then crash when trying to load my hosted world. This only happened when Steam Cloud was enabled.

Fix Applied

  1. Turned OFF Steam Cloud for Windrose
As soon as Steam Cloud was disabled, the game stopped trying to sync the corrupted cloud metadata.

  2. Launched the game with Cloud OFF
With cloud disabled, the game loaded my local save instead of the cloud version.

  3. Result
The world loaded instantly with no crash.
    This confirmed:

The local save is good

The world files are good

The Steam Cloud version is corrupted

The crash was caused by the cloud metadata, not the world itself

No manifest mismatch was present, so Solution 2 did not apply.

Conclusion
The issue was fixed by bypassing the corrupted Steam Cloud save.
Turning off Steam Cloud allowed the game to load the valid local save, immediately resolving the loading hang and crash. To Fix the cloud save so you can turn it back on
If you want Steam Cloud working again, you must replace the corrupted cloud save with your working local save.

Here’s the safe method:

Keep Steam Cloud OFF

Play your world normally (this ensures your local save is good)

Exit the game

Go to:

Code
C:\Users<YourUser>\AppData\Local\R5\Saved
Back up this folder somewhere safe

Turn Steam Cloud ON

When Steam asks which version to keep:
Choose LOCAL VERSION
(This uploads your working save to the cloud)

After that, your cloud save will be fixed.

This does not solve the underlying problem. This is a work around, if you had saved cloud data that data is basically toast because it wasn't saved locally. If it was, I would not have been at the character creation screen.

So starting from zero if this is the case. I am over it. Going to play something else, very disappointed so far with overall gameplay. I had high hopes, having played through the demo, but this is very much a technical issue that I am surprised is an issue. Steam cloud saves happen with tons of others games. A $30 game shouldn't have these issues on release.

I've already requested a refund, you all have fun with it. I value my time too much for this.
