From the sound of it you might have your save file corrupted.

Have you played on several PCs recently? Or maybe a steam deck?

BUG REPORTING GUIDE

Please share your game logs, game saves, crash dumps, and DxDiag. These are essential for diagnosing and fixing bugs.

HOW TO FIND LOGS

Game logs are located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\Logs

Server logs are located here:
R5\Builds\WindowsServer\R5\Saved\Logs

To get there, open Steam, find Windrose in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files. From there, archive the files in the Logs folder and share them with us.

Please name your logs in a way that describes the problem, for example: Crashedwhile_fighting_Dodo.log

HOW TO FIND SAVES

Your saves are located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles
Please close the game before archiving your saves!

If you are playing on a dedicated server:
• Stop both the client and the dedicated server.
• Find and archive your server logs and world save.

Dedicated server logs are located here:
R5\Saved\Logs

Dedicated server saves are located here:
R5\Saved\SaveProfiles

To get there, open Steam, find Windrose Dedicated Server in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files (or go to the folder where your Windrose Dedicated Server is stored).

Please close the dedicated server before archiving your saves.

If crashes are involved, please share crash dumps:

Game client dumps (if play offline)

• Press Win + R.
• Type dxdiag and press Enter.
• When the tool opens, click Save All Information.
• Save the .txt file and attach it to your report.

Can you look up for Dave’s location and try to rename the SaveProfiles folder and try to launch the game.

sorry just logged on, yes i have been on my steamdeck and i know theres been an issue lately, i had gone back and forth already and was just hoping that i was getting lucky 😅 i will follow your instructions now

as i enter the R5 folder i have no folder named "saved"

i will uninstal and reinstal to see if that works while i wait for a response, i'd like to just make the new folders as i need but idk if theres others im missing

hey there, unistalling won't remove saves so you need to find them manually

this coudl be a tricky folder to find, try this:

WInd + R
copypaste this: %LocalAppData%

I am very sorry about that, taht you have encountered this issue. we are investigation how and why this could be happening... but it could take some time 🙁

there is a small cahnce, taht the save still could be restored (but i can not gurantee this)

Her are two known way to try to see if it could be saved:

Disable steam cloud saves
%Localappdata%\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles(some numbers)\RocksDB\0.10.0\Accounts(some numbers)\CURRENT
Open with any text editor (notepad), it will contain text like MANIFEST-000005
In same folder look for file called MANIFEST-XXXXXX
If file name is not the same as from CURRENT step 3 - rename it to match step 3.

i have 2 "manifest" files, one matches and 1 is different

"current" says 21 and i have 2 manifest folders "17" and "21"

i have disabled cloud save and once we get the pc side fixed ill keep 2 seperate pirates

i get that but am i supposed to have 1 manifest or 2? cause 1 already matches what is written in notepad, so do i rename the 17 or delete it and keep 1 manifest?

that is a good question. can you copy the other manifest file and delete it for now and see if the game launches for you?

sir, unfortunately it looks like your save got sorrupted and we can not revive it 🙁 very sorry about that

we have released an update today that now creates save backups everytime you launch the game so you can always have a rollback option if that issue happens again (we are investigating the root casue and still not sure what is causing it)

its ok! the save file is in tack on my steam deck! ill either start a new pirate on pc or see if i can cloud save now that the update is out, do i delete both manifest files and erase the text from "current" to remove the old file?

moved some players & accounts & worlds
only one in each folder stayed on place
and both solo and multiplayer loaded fine

starting from today's patch we have saves backup functionality so if you encounter othe corruptions you shold be able to resoter your save

for those with a 2nd device.... its risky but i deleted all my corrupted save files off of my pc and synced with cloud then turned it back off... i got my files back on pc, use at your own risk

I am getting this same issue. Any idea on a fix for this? Ive disabled the steam cloud and verified the gmae files.

@strong ingot is there a fix for the no menu issue? Game is unplayable to the point where we might need to seak a refund.
