EDIT SOLUTION:

Disabling Cloud Save and restarting Steam + Reverifying Game Files seems to have worked.

Trying to play my solo game, but when I select my character and game on the main menu, I'm getting a "Fatal Error" error during loading.

Any advice on how I can fix it so I can keep playing?

Playing on PC, through Steam. Solo Game.

Edit Updates:

Tried reverifying game files via steam, still can't load into save.
Tried starting a new Archipelago with existing character: loads in fine with character equipment
Checked the MANIFEST-XXXXXX numbers matched in \Accounts\CURRENT
Checked to make sure there was only one file in \Accounts\CURRENT

Still crashes when trying to load into original saved Archipelago with base and ship.

Good day sir. Do I understand correctly that this is the first time you are launching the game? you hvan't played before?

No, I've playing it for the last couple of days. Worked fine yesterday and then again this morning; but now after a day at work when I try to load in to my existing game it crashes during loading.

Game starts fine; I get to the main menu; pick my character, pick "solo", then click to load my Archipelago, this comes up during the loading screen. If it helps, after a little while I can hear the game noise (dodos and waves etc) and the sounds of my character equipping himself but then I get the error message before the game switches from the loading screen to actual gameplay

#

I've also reverified my game files via Steam to see if that was the cause, and still no joy.

I've also tried starting a new Archipelago.... seems I can load into that without issue without my existing character and his equipment; but I can load into my original Archipelago with my base.

i'm sorry I am back now

#

did you try to play the game on several devices?

#

unfortunately it looks like we are having an issue with Steam Cloud saves and when one updates our saves through steam cloud there is a chance of corrupting the save files :((

it looks like this might be your case.

I am very sorry that happened sir

#

ther is a chance that yo ucould restore the save, but there is no guarantee that it would help.... but let's try if you don't mind

#

Option number one:

  1. Disable steam cloud saves
  2. %Localappdata%\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles(some numbers)\RocksDB\0.10.0\Accounts(some numbers)\CURRENT
  3. Open with any text editor (notepad), it will contain text like MANIFEST-000005
  4. In same folder look for file called MANIFEST-XXXXXX
  5. If file name is not the same as from CURRENT step 3 - rename it to match step 3.
#

if you see that MANIFEST numbers are the same

#

ocne again, very sorry this happened 🙁

Thank you 💙 I'll give that a go and update accordingly

#

Just tried that and it looks like the Manifests in the Account folder matches... I did look however but my Player and World Manifest don't.

%Localappdata%\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles(some numbers)\RocksDB\0.10.0\Accounts(some numbers)\CURRENT
%Localappdata%\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles(some numbers)\RocksDB\0.10.0\Players(some numbers)\CURRENT
%Localappdata%\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles(some numbers)\RocksDB\0.10.0\Worlds(some numbers)\CURRENT

Are the Manifests supposed to match between folders?

Within each folder the Manifest in CURRENT matches the File MANIFEST-XXXXXX, but each folder has a different XXXXX

#

(I also only have one Account/Player/World folder so its not like in the video)

Yes it looks like we can not restore your save. Very sorry about that :(( WE are investigating what coul've led to this, but it could take time.
If you decide to start over, I wold recomment to disable cloud saves for now

Will do; thank you for your help. I'm not too worried, Early Access is always temperamental; Mostly I wanted to reach out to let you know there was an issue so you were aware rather than because I wanted to restore my save. Thanks again.

Updating this in case anyone else has a similar issue and ends up reading this:

Disabling Cloud Save and restarting Steam + Reverifying Game Files seems to have worked.

Not sure how or why, but the save that was crashing yesterday, is now working.
