The Foothill Patch to make fertile soil is called "Vorgebirgs-Aufnäher" in german.
Foothill as "Vorgebirge" is fine but "Aufnäher" means a patch you sew onto clothes to fix them.
I don't know any german word currently which would fit the 1:1 translation here for "patch" but "Beetkasten" (planting bed), "Hochbeet" (raised planting bed) or just "Fruchtbarer Boden" (fertile soil) would fit better.
