#Can't join my decicated server since this morning!

Hi,

I'm experiencing connection issues with my dedicated server since today. Everything was working perfectly yesterday with no problems.

Symptoms

  • Infinite loading on the main menu when attempting to connect
  • Sometimes kicked back to the main menu, other times the game crashes and closes with no error code
  • Occasionally the connection establishes 1-2 times but immediately bugs out and sends me back to the main menu

What I've already tried

I tried the general connectivity fixes (disabling IPv6, switching DNS, Cloudflare WARP) — none of them resolved the issue.

I will maybe follow the official dedicated server troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verified client and server versions match
  2. Updated the game client via Steam
  3. Located the WindroseServer folder in the game files
  4. Copied its contents to the hosted server location
  5. Moved saves from R5\Saved (old server) → R5\Saved (new server)

My question is : i will still have everything i did yesterday? The same issue is gonna comeback again and again?

Nothing has changed on my end since yesterday. Any help would be appreciated!

I checked the server logs and the same error appears on every connection attempt: disconnected on port 3478, End of file. Player briefly connects then gets dropped immediately.

Hi! Where is your dedicated server hosted?

dim matrix

Can you try downloading your world savefiles from them and see if they work offline localy?

warped crown
#

How i can test that?

#

I got my world savefiles check

dim matrix
#

Windrose Dedicated Server\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\Default\RocksDB{GameVersion}\Worlds\

#

And put them locally into %localappdata%\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles\Default\RocksDB{GameVersion}\Worlds\

#

And then try to launch it in solo/offline

dim matrix
#

Win+R -> %localappdata%

#

After that find \R5\Saved.... etc there

#

Go Until worlds folder and put it there

warped crown
#

I just can't find Windrose

#

Ok my bad R5 is here

#

It's working without problem offline @dim matrix

dim matrix
#

Then world itself is fine, must be nitroserv issue

#

Suggest contacting them for support

Ok thanks

Hello there! CEO of nitroserv here.
I try to debug this issue, as it is the first time it appears.

Seems like the P2P is trying to connect, it adds the player, but then fails. A "magic cookie" seems incorrect, something cannot be decoded/parsed. It then ejects the player. Log is attached.
The bug may not happen in offline mode because the P2P doesn't trigger there?

Let me know if we can do anything, it seems like it's not under our control for now

Need full server log to look into it

hidden sluice
#

here it is.
for what it's worth, I tried setting up a brand new server on a another server IP, and it worked.
I suspect the server IP we use is banned from your P2P system, because we host multiple servers on the same IP.

dim matrix
#

It's not IP, it's mostly about our connectivity servers getting banned

#

We don't have direct IP connecton yet, it uses our connectivity servers to register server invite code and pass it on to any clients attempting to connect

#

So if you could move Alex server to another IP with his savefile - it should work

hidden sluice
#

yep but as all the requests to register invite codes are coming from the same IP on our side, maybe it triggered something than banned the IP on the connectivity server ?

If device ID is the same, we have cooldown right now on our servers, but we're working on fixing that and making it minimal

I'm available any time via DM if needed

dim matrix
#

I'm not sure it will 100% help, but should be in the next few days

#

Other 3rd party hosters don't seem to have that issue

#

So I'm not 100% convinced it's same issue and it'll help

hidden sluice
#

The logs seems clear that it's not an issue on our side :/
I guess we'll have to workaround with multiple IPs

Can you recommend one that is working and maybe rethink who you're directing your customers to?

Nitrado as directed by the game client

For this thread/case, it's about Nitroserv

Without it, p2p could fail if you’re relying on the DCs DNS

rare onyx
#

Ok I see, two companies similar name. My mistake. Clearly something wrong though if this is affecting multiple companies

DNS on both server and client must be able to talk to Windrose’s servers 👍

rare onyx
#

Home DNS is just fine, I don't have control on the server DNS I wouldn't have thought. Surely they would have thought about that before partnering with someone?

I'd also have thought that if it was a DNS issue, it wouldn't be able to check password / start the loading sequence would it?

What version of wine?

dim matrix

I had our container using Debian bookworm slim which packaged with Wine 8, we had these sorts of issues
When we switched to Wine 11, we ran into less issues and it’s been overall much more compatible

wise pasture
#

^ the issues I’m referring to are more related to crashes upon players joining, if you’re seeing the same

#

If you’re on wine 8, try wine 11, should work much better 😁

It's still a bit weird that it works for the first couple of servers on the IP, and then stops working

hidden sluice
#

@dim matrix may I send you a MP with more informations on our debugging ?

dim matrix

What is MP?

DM* my bad
