#Consistent Crashing

(copy pasted from tech-support, just in case it gets buried, it's easier to follow a thread if there's responses too)

ive had some really weird and sudden full unreal engine fatal errors, and was wondering if anyone had a similar system to mine to maybe help

game runs fine overall, but will suddenly hang and crash while hosting a server (still on the starting island)
one other player in the server, usually my CPU and GPU useage sits around 50% for both, and its taking less than half of my overall RAM, im not sure if its a drivers thing or what but atp I'm desperate for help and it won't stop crashing

CPU: Intel i5-13600K
RAM: 32gb ddr5 (not sure specifics)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT

according to the R5 Log, the error is: [2026.04.16-02.02.09:786][914]LogD3D12RHI: Error: GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed
I'm not quite sure why, and was just hoping someone had a fix

-# If relevant, all my settings are set as low as possible, framegen is on (have tried on and off)

#

26.3.1 for AMD drivers

@tired warren My logs displayed the same msg and i fixed it with the following:
1-Enabling V-sinc on the in-game settings
2-Locking the FPS in 60 on the in-game settings
3-Enabling "Radeon Enhanced Sync" on the Adrenalin App(Specifically this third step solved the problem, only the first 2 didn't)
Let me know if you tried and if it worked or not

i'll give this a shot! it is currently off for me so lets give it a try

#

did you have framegen on or off? what variant? i currently have mine set to FSR - Ultra Performance - 2x - 44% Sharpness

#

my vsync and 60fps are already on

iron umbra
#

Upscaler - FSR
Upscaler Type - Performance
Frame Gen - Off

tired warren
#

bet, ty

#

ok as i was about to report that i did those changes and would test it

alt tab crashed the game

#

swapping to fullscreen instead of windowed fullscreen

#

was seeming fine, then after i went into the cave, got some copper, left, got a few steps then suddenly crashed

game is running smooth at 120 FPS otherwise

#

person im playing with thinks that them picking up an item might have caused it? they did pick something up right as i crashed twice now

#

they said theyre gonna try not to pick up anything and see how long it lasts

iron umbra
#

hmmm, i didn't try multiplayer yet, i was playing solo

tired warren
#

notably, they said doctor galen wasnt here before the crash and now he suddenly is

#

it did still randomly crash if they even just stood around, same Fatal Error in unreal engine

#

AMD is dubbing it a driver timeout, but im not sure what else i can do

tired warren
#

(I'll probably hold off on any more testing for a bit until anything new pops up, but for now the crashes remain constant. I haven't tried not being the server host or solo, but im not sure that would change much due to it seemingly being gpu related? Any suggestions are appreciated)

Forgot to leave a message - I've gathered your logs and sent them to tech team, we're looking into it

tired warren

Thanks a ton!

Wanted to try the above since it worked for them, and it crashed with these options in less than 5 minutes still, here's the associated log

#

going to try without launch options and having someone else host instead, since I have always tried actively hosting for our group, will update

tepid hill
#

Oh, by the way, do you have any kind of "AMD Frame Gen" enabled by their software?

tired warren
#

I have tried in game frame gen, but opted to not use it after finding I run at 120 FPS without it. Other than that, everything in AMD is off

I did enable Enhanced Sync after a recommendation, but both with and without it it seems to crash

#

AMD settings

I see, then we still don't have a proper solution. We're looking for similar cases too to find any clues.

#

I'll keep testing whatever I can throw at the wall! Love the game and wanna play it enough to keep testing

#

All my in game settings, for any potential help it may be

tired warren

It actually seemed to go a lot longer when I wasn't host, it only crashed after I started messing with graphics settings >_> (i wanted to see if i could make it look better without it crashing and uh, then it did)

#

Even without messing with settings this time, still eventually crashed while playing and not hosting. I did turn on framegen to not play at 60 fps, but it crashed with or without it on so I can confirm its not that. Gonna take a break from testing for now but hopefully somehow this helps

what is weard to me is that this started hapening after 2 days from lunch day befor that i had zero my self

tired warren
#

Reviving the dead just to poke around to see if anyone has had any updates regarding the crashes?

normal kernel
#

The crashes sadly no, but installing the 26.1.1-driver solved the timeout-issue for me. But it still crashes every 30-45 minutes (the well known "fatal error").

tired warren
#

๐Ÿ‘€ gonna check out this patch later today hopefully!

whole scaffold
#

Fatal error still occurs for myself randomly.

normal kernel
#

Same for me. Even the timeout-issue was back.

Took less than 10 minutes, overall performance seems better post-patch, and I did get a sudden hang midway playing that I assumed was gonna be a crash but it didn't and kept on fine to my surprise (Usually, every hang it crashes)

buuuut just a bit later it goes away
