#Game never opens
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
I've turned off IPv6, uninstalled, reinstalled muliple times, set up port forwarding to 3478, and many other fixes.
Verified files. Exceed system requirements. Updated graphics drivers.
So you can't even get to main menu?
No
Two possible fixes
-
If you have non english letters in windows user name - try using another user or wait until we deploy fix
-
Disable cloud saves -> open up Win+R -> %LOCALAPPDATA% -> delete R5\Saved folder -> launch the gmae
It's not #1. For #2 just delete the Saved folder inside the R5 folder?
Doesn't work. It tries to load, creates a new Saved folder, and then closes. All I ever see is a black screen.
Have you disabled steam cloud saves? Also what id your hardware spec
Can you share dxdiag information?
If you can walk me through it please!
Please share your (1) game logs, (2) saves, and (3) DxDiag — they are essential for diagnosing and fixing bugs.
(1) HOW TO FIND LOGS
Game logs are located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\Logs
Server logs are located here:
R5\Builds\WindowsServer\R5\Saved\Logs
To get there, open Steam, find Windrose in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files. From there, archive the files in the Logs folder and share them with us.
Please name your logs in a way that describes the problem, for example: Crashedwhile_fighting_Dodo.log
(2) HOW TO FIND SAVES
Your saves are located here:
C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles
Please close the game before archiving your saves!
If you are playing on a dedicated server:
• Stop both the client and the dedicated server.
• Find and archive your server logs and world save.
Dedicated server logs are located here:
R5\Saved\Logs
Dedicated server saves are located here:
R5\Saved\SaveProfiles
To get there, open Steam, find Windrose Dedicated Server in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files (or go to the folder where your Windrose Dedicated Server is stored).
Please close the dedicated server before archiving your saves.
(3) Please also include your DxDiag report
This is your PC specifications in .txt format:
• Press Win + R.
• Type dxdiag and press Enter.
• When the tool opens, click Save All Information.
• Save the .txt file and attach it to your report.
(4) Any additional screenshots and/or videos are HIGHLY appreciated!
Step number (3)
It's just clean installation, first launch, no mods, nothing?
Correct
Looking into it
We're investigating it atm
Hi, we suspect it might be something with file loading.
Can you open file %LOCALAPPDATA%\R5\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini
append the following
[Core.Log]
LogStreaming=VeryVerbose
LogPakFile=VeryVerbose
LogIoStore=VeryVerbose
then start the game two or three times and send us the logs? You'll need to append those lines to %LOCALAPPDATA%\R5\Saved\Config\Windows\Engine.ini before each of these launches.
I’ll try this when I get home from work!
When I open that Config folder there is no windows folder or engine.ini
That's strange, the game must've crashed before it created them. Can you create Windows folder and put this ini file inside?
How exactly does it crash, do you see a game window or does the game terminate even before that ?
A game window comes up and the black screen disappears after a few seconds.
If I alt-tab I can see that it is the Windrose window.
Chiming in here as well, the game screen in black flashes up for a moment after I say 'Yes' to allow the BootstrapPackagedGame. Tried various workarounds, but the game has never fully launched and when I tried the fix to create the Windows folder and and the engine.ini file, the game does the same thing but mine kept the Windows file, but deleted the engine.ini file. Keeping an eye on this thread, as I suspect my issue will be solved with this fix.
Provide dxdiag and game.log if it exists.
Just to be sure can you drag&drop the most recent game log again ?
LogRHI: Error: Failed to create compute pipeline with hash B11EBAC739685991ECF4BF89D2CE11F35C419CAF.
Which is either a corrupted shader cache due to a broken GPU driver or unstable CPU, which leads me to :
System Manufacturer: ASUS
BIOS: 1210 (type: UEFI)
Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-13900K (32 CPUs), ~3.0GHz
That is likely 3 year out of date BIOS on a known unstable CPU :

Video, the Telemetry Performance Visualization System, and Oodle Data Compression - all popular video game middleware.
Ok wow. Thank you for finding the issue. Now I've got some reading to do.
This is a good find, thank you. We're shipping with the version of Oodle that should reduce the frequency of the issue, but bios update is definitely recommended.
The V-min shift issue was never related to Oodle specifically, but it was the most common trigger for the instability amongst gamers for sure 🫡
Met folks that had to RMA those trashed CPUs because even with BIOS updates they wouldn't hold stock clocks anymore.
I think I read that the issue was some internal clock degrading due to overheating, and the culprit in Oodle was specifically some instruction that compiler output that started misbehaving due to this degradation.
Didn't know that they could even fail to hold stock clocks though
having a similar issue since yesterday. It was opening fine after verifying the game files but it is not working now. CPU: AMD
Please start a new thread and attach game logs and dxdiag, we'll take a look.
@fervent ingot steps 1 and 3

Can you please tag me and @desert apex in that thread?
