#Bug Report - Camera / Character Movement

I am experiencing an issue with character control and camera behavior.

The mouse only moves the camera left and right, but it does not allow me to properly steer the character. Because of this, controlling movement is very difficult, and even making a simple 180-degree turn can be awkward or almost impossible.

Expected behavior:
Mouse/camera movement should allow smoother and more intuitive character reorientation.

Current behavior:
The camera moves, but the character does not follow in a usable way, which makes movement feel broken or very uncomfortable.

This has a strong negative impact on gameplay and makes character control frustrating.

Thanks for the report, we'll look into it.

By chance - do you have a gamepad connected at the same time when you're trying to play with the keyboard and mouse?

No i don't have any other device plugged, only a keyboard and a mouse. Is it a known bug ?

Some of the similar problems caused by plugged in gamepad. If the problem is still there, and the gamepad isn't involved we're gonna need your logs and a save file to try to figure out whats wrong.

BUG REPORTING GUIDE

Please share your (1) game logs, (2) saves, and (3) DxDiag — they are essential for diagnosing and fixing bugs.

(1) HOW TO FIND LOGS

Game logs are located here:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\Logs

Server logs are located here:

R5\Builds\WindowsServer\R5\Saved\Logs

To get there, open Steam, find Windrose in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files. From there, archive the files in the Logs folder and share them with us.

Please name your logs in a way that describes the problem, for example: Crashedwhile_fighting_Dodo.log

(2) HOW TO FIND SAVES

Your saves are located here:

C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\R5\Saved\SaveProfiles
Please close the game before archiving your saves!

If you are playing on a dedicated server:

• Stop both the client and the dedicated server.
• Find and archive your server logs and world save.

Dedicated server logs are located here:

R5\Saved\Logs

Dedicated server saves are located here:

R5\Saved\SaveProfiles

To get there, open Steam, find Windrose Dedicated Server in your library, right-click it, then go to Manage → Browse local files (or go to the folder where your Windrose Dedicated Server is stored).

Please close the dedicated server before archiving your saves.

(3) Please also include your DxDiag report

This is your PC specifications in .txt format:

• Press Win + R.
• Type dxdiag and press Enter.
• When the tool opens, click Save All Information.
• Save the .txt file and attach it to your report.

(4) Any additional screenshots and/or videos are HIGHLY appreciated!

I initially purchased the game, encountered a major issue with the controls, and requested a refund. After that, I decided to purchase the game again because I genuinely want to play it and verify whether the issue was resolved.

Unfortunately, the problem persists and makes the game effectively unplayable with mouse and keyboard.

Here is the exact issue:

The mouse only controls the camera (looking left/right)
The A and D keys only move the character laterally (strafe)
There is no option or key binding available to rotate the character
As a result, it is impossible to properly turn or face a direction during gameplay

This behavior is not normal. In the demo version of the game, character rotation worked correctly, which suggests this is a regression or a broken control implementation in the current version.

I have performed the following troubleshooting steps:

Reset all key bindings to default
Verified that no rotation key exists in the controls
Reinstalled the game completely
Deleted local configuration files (AppData)
Disabled Steam Cloud
Tested different display modes (fullscreen, windowed)
Attempted input workarounds (keyboard/mouse adjustments)

None of these actions resolved the issue.

Given that:

the issue did not exist in the demo,
the current version lacks a basic control function (character rotation),
and the game is not playable in this state without a controller,

I believe this is a technical problem with the game rather than a configuration issue on my side.

I am requesting your assistance and would appreciate either:

confirmation that this is a known issue and will be fixed,
or
consideration for a refund given the circumstances, even though I previously refunded the game.

Thank you for your time and understanding.

(searching for logs, i'm going to post them)

I also attempted to work around the issue using AutoHotkey to simulate character rotation via keyboard inputs. However, this did not work because the game does not appear to expose any rotation input at all (only strafing is available).

What I see on the videos is the intended control scheme for the game. We don't have keyboard controls for character rotation. When you hold W and move your mouse, the character will move forward and turn according to your mouse inputs.

So if you hold W and move your mouse to the left - your character will move forward and turn left, to follow your camera direction.
If you stay still and move your mouse left and right - your character will stay still. If you press W after - character will start moving towards the camera direction.

#

If you turn your camera around and press W, your character will start moving towards the camera without any additional key inputs.

Thanks for your reply, I understand how the forward movement works.

The issue I am describing is specifically about moving backward (S key).

When I press S, the character moves backward, but the camera does not follow or allow a natural turn-around. As a result, I am effectively moving in reverse, like backing up a car, without being able to properly reorient the character.

Because there is no rotation input and no camera-assisted turn when moving backward, it is not possible to perform a smooth or natural 180° turn using mouse and keyboard.

This creates a control situation that feels very awkward and unintuitive, especially compared to the demo version.

So the issue is not about forward movement (W), but about the lack of a proper turn-around mechanic when moving backward.

I hope this clarifies the problem.

Control mechanism hasn't changed since the demo.

Thank you for your reply.

I understand that the control mechanism itself may not have changed since the demo.

However, the current behavior I am experiencing still feels significantly different in practice.

The main issue is not the forward movement (which works as expected), but the backward movement and the lack of a natural turn-around.

When I press S, the character moves backward, but the camera does not assist or allow a smooth reorientation. This makes it feel like reversing without being able to properly turn or face a new direction.

Even if this is technically the same system as in the demo, the current experience with mouse and keyboard feels unintuitive and imposssible to use in practice.

Additionally, I have seen discussions on Discord mentioning broader key binding issues, which might be related.

So the concern here is not whether the system changed, but that the current implementation feels awkward and limits normal movement, especially when trying to turn around.

I hope this helps clarify my situation.

I'm sorry, there were no changes made in control scheme or character movement behaviour since demo, its completely the same experience controls-wise.

Key binding issues are completely separate from yours.

Thank you for your reply.

I think there is still a misunderstanding, and I would really like to clarify my exact issue.

I am not trying to compare the current version with the demo anymore. I understand your point that the control scheme has not changed.

My problem is simply this:

Moving the mouse does not turn the character.

The mouse only moves the camera. The character itself does not rotate unless I move forward with W.

Because of this:

  • I cannot turn my character on the spot
  • I cannot perform a natural 180° turn
  • When I press S, I move backward without being able to properly reorient, like reversing without looking behind

This makes the controls very difficult to use for me with mouse and keyboard.

If this behavior is not considered a bug, then unfortunately the game is effectively unplayable for me in its current state with mouse and keyboard.

I would really appreciate if you could focus on this specific behavior rather than the comparison with the demo, as this is the core issue I am experiencing.

If it helps, I can record a short video showing exactly what I mean (especially the backward movement and the inability to turn naturally).

Please let me know if you would like me to provide it.

Thank you for your time.

For the purpose of your question - yes, it is intended control scheme and is not considered a bug.
