Is this just future proofing for a later patch or update?
I can understand if you want to have different set pieces/gear to try different builds. But having 7 pages of space, seems like i should be able to share gear with my alts and start playing endgame content with them.

On the other hand, we can be happy about not having to buy more stash space when we need more as you have all those tabs for every char.
You can use quite a lot of it surprisingly, depending on how far you want to go in a season on a char.
You can keep one piece of every set item just in case you wanna mess around with them or want to stay flexible with upcoming drops that might have sockets or so.
You can keep one of every relic to be flexible in dungeons and what they need.
You can keep one of every weapon, or even the same weapons with a different tree allowing a slightly different playstyle.
You can keep entirely secondary sets of gear, depending on which build you play (two of the elarion builds atm have very different secondary stat needs for example)
