They said they want to keep gems as a late game thing
And besides, you wouldnt be able to use the gems until a piece with a gem socket would drop, which wouldnt help alts in any way cause socketed gear is basically non existant in lower leagues, you’d have gems but no use for them

they confirmed there were a couple dungeon that literally didnt drop gems. That plus being able to socket gear with a consumable, gems will be no-where near as bad
