#Use gem upgrade system on gear to mitigate RNG

I'd rather be able to play multiple fellows in each season than smash my face into an RNG wall with one of them.

Could we mitigate RNG by adding into two new recipes:

  1. 3 copies of the same unsocketted item (plus gold/mat) = one copy of the same item with a socket.

  2. 3 copies of the same socketted item (plus gold/mat) = one copy of the same item with a socket and the essence bonus.

It's not a bad idea but once you are in eternal you get those very quick (even the bonus slots). It's the gems that are the real grind with very low drop rate. Those are where you really need a system to smooth out the RNG.

No. At 10k rating and have seen one socket+essence item, and it had the worst stat combo. Meanwhile, I've got a few tier 3 gems made.

that's the beauty of rng.. it can be insanely fast or insanely slow.
same goes with legendaries, our mara got 3 out of the 5 first champion dungeons, our tank waited for the free one in ransack

#

and yes, having systems to "fix" that would be very cool

I’m doing 20+ eternals and my only socketed item not counting the legendary is cloak and even that is without 35% bonus

#

I have so many gems and nowhere to put them

#

And if the socketed item FINALLY drops it’s something useless

#

I’m praying for a system that would let me socket piece of gear

Even if my idea was implemented, people with bad luck still have to get 9copies of a normal item to min max it. This idea just makes the worst case of luck 9copies bad instead of unlimited. If we're going to do seasons, this feels reasonable. It's also easy to tune it to 2 or 4 of a kind if needed.

I’d just make it to socket an item using mats like magic essence and materia

#

It shouldn’t be cheap but seems more reasonable then finding 9 copies of the same item xD

Rerolls have got me the most sockets out of all methods

This is actually a great idea
