title. tired of this character and of all my games against him i have never understood what the actual counterplay is beyond locking malphite
i build armor, he still does a shitton of damage. i build hp, it doesnt matter, he's going bruiser and can match my sustain.
i main jungle for the record, specifically viego, but i'd like to know how the actual counterplay theory works rather than just relying on mu diff

Well when you dismiss building armor and HP out of hand then we're very short on options

there's a difference between dismissing it and saying that in my experience it does nothing/little to nothing. there's absolutely more of an option than just "stack armor and hp"

dodge his Qs during R and he does so little damage it's hilarious (worth a well timed flash especially if you're playing someone squishy, likewise Zhonya's is amazing for mages v. Zed later on in the game). Most of Zed's damage comes from his R dealing a % of all the damage he does to you during the time the mark is there (55% at rank 5 if memory serves). Main way Zed actually kills people that are somewhat tanky is by drawing you into his 'triangle of doom' Shurikens beyond first still do damage (albeit reduced), but it also makes it much easier for him to at least land one of them and get the full Q damage+R mark doing a further % of it. So you want to avoid being near both him and his shadows. (I suspect you're trying to man-fight him as Viego only for him W away and then when you chase R you and drop his full rotation...leading to a splat and dead for you? If this is true, you playing right into his hands fighting him like this; though you can outplay his Qs with a well-timed and positioned flash)

i usually don't have that big of a problem with him on viego other than the fact that if i catch him i can never actually kill him
