A few suggestions for the Lair's modifiers that would allow them to be much better-balanced than they currently are. This will include some of the same ones as before, but with changes to them as well.

{Vulgun's Proposed Lair Modifiers}

Vampirism: Monsters restore 30% of unblocked damage dealt as healing.

Gloaming Hall: The environment becomes significantly darker and visibility is reduced. Nameplates are also removed from players.

Trick and Treat: Increases the number of enemies by 50% but also increases the rewards earned from Cursed Chests by the same amount.

Meteor Shower: Causes meteors to fall from the sky, dealing moderate damage to all targets and causing rings of fire to disperse around the arena.

{Vulgun's Proposed Changes to Current Lair Modifiers}

The Floor is Lava: Now ignites significant portions of the floor that burn players when standing on them. These portions of the floor are seen through burning red cracks. Very hard to miss.

The Rot: Now applies only after an enemy dies and causes these pools to spread slowly over time, preventing players from being able to prolong Cursed Chest runs.

Employee of the Month: No longer guaranteed on mini-boss or boss monsters. Additionally, the chosen monster can now be looted by all players to grant more Color Fragments.

Anything with Cowardice: Cowardice now only applies when you're out of a 5 meter range of a monster for 5 seconds, but instantly applies all stacks if you are in a previous lair room.

Missed Opportunity: No longer reduces damage, but instead increases the recovery time of missed attacks by 66%. Does not stack.

Additionally, I would like to propose a few more changes to make certain modifiers more appealing:

  • Modifiers that are proven to require more skill to take on or make it much harder to complete a Cursed Chest in the Lair now reward players with more loot from the Cursed Chest as compensation.

  • Modifiers now have a difficulty rating assigned to them. Modifiers such as Lucky Bastard would get a D-Rank while modifiers such as Meteor Shower (see above) would get an S-Rank. These difficulty ratings would tie into the compensation explained above.

This would all culminate in a much better experience, in my honest opinion, to the current Modifiers we have going on with the Lair at the moment. It encourages players to risk more for more reward, while also changing modifiers to be more engaging than some current ones are.

What if there's a third option that gives you an unknown random modifier so you have to roll the dice and risk getting a harder one, or maybe you get a real easy one and it gives you extra loot in your chests?
