So I don't disagree with PVE only for dungeons but I do have this idea where there is a duels/war system where you can set up a fight look at each others gear and have to agree to it before the fight would start you could even have it so you can create unbalanced fights i.e. 1v3 so content creators could do viewer duels or something along the lines of it just somewhere to either be competitive or just mess around with your hard earnt gear.

Potential duels/war features

  • A fee to participate(little bit of gold burn in the name of fun)
  • Wagering items/currency
  • Friendly or Risk fights (Keep or lose gear or rating etc)
  • Elo system
  • Ability to see skill tree and gear before agreeing
  • Challenge lobby where you can set up challenges with certain parameters i.e. 1v2 no brutes ;)
  • matchmaking pool

I Think giving the right to decline a duel and such before its started when you see each others build class and gear is one of the most important parts.
Also makes it so that playerbase will self govern and find it's balance like setting up mirror matches ect or excluding classes that are cheesy or too op in pvp but then hopefully find mirror matches still and this way there's little need for balancing and focus can still be put onto pve.

there's an easy way to do that

just enable friendly fire, let players 'self govern'
